Seattle, WA – Daybreak Star Radio is proud to announce the first annual Winter Indigenous Film Showcase, a week-long festival dedicated to amplifying the voices and stories of Indigenous, First Nations, and Native American filmmakers. Taking place from February 16th to 22nd, 2025, at the Daybreak Star Indian Cultural Center, this free-to-attend event will feature a wide range of films, from narrative and documentary to animated works, spoken word productions, and web series, each crafted by Indigenous storytellers from across the Americas.
The Winter Indigenous Film Showcase is an unprecedented opportunity for the Seattle community and beyond to experience the diverse cultural heritage and unique perspectives of Indigenous filmmakers. Audiences will enjoy thought-provoking films like Bring Them Home with Lily Gladstone, Fish War, & Hey! Victor. Films that illuminate Indigenous history, culture, and contemporary issues, all while celebrating the artistry and creativity within Indigenous communities.
"We’re honored to provide a platform that allows Indigenous voices to take center stage," says Sherry Steele, Station Manager for Daybreak Star Radio. "The Winter Indigenous Film Showcase is more than a festival; it’s an opportunity to celebrate the strength, resilience, and beauty of Indigenous storytelling."
In addition to the films, the festival will feature exclusive events, including a Filmmakers' Function at the Daybreak Star Indian Cultural Center, where attendees can connect with filmmakers and learn more about the inspiration behind their work. This special gathering will highlight the sense of community, reciprocity, and shared respect for the land that is central to Indigenous culture.
Thanks to support from sponsors and contributors, Daybreak Star Radio has committed to keeping the event free and accessible to the public.
