“TO LEARN A LANGUAGE IS TO HAVE ONE MORE WINDOW FROM WHICH TO LOOK AT THE WORLD.”

Message From Superintendent Mueller
Hello, CUSD.
Welcome Back!
First and foremost, a heartfelt shout out to our CUSD military children. April is the Month of the Military Child and we are dedicated to serving the many military students in our schools. We are proud of our Purple Star School District designation and honored to serve these very special children.
We were thrilled to celebrate over 130 students at our annual World Language Awards and Cultural Fair on Tuesday night. It is the only awards event we host that includes elementary, middle and high school students together. As a K-12 district that is really something to celebrate!
Years ago we made a commitment to increase world language experiences and opportunities across the district. This goal was included in our Long Range Plan created in 2018, and watching the development of this pathway has been very rewarding. This year was the second year of our WL awards ceremony, and the highlight was the 66 high school students that earned the prestigious State Seal of Biliteracy award (up from 42 students receiving the Seal in 2022). It was also exciting to see the 5th and 8th graders who earned Home Language Development and Biliteracy Attainment recognitions, and realize how many languages are spoken in the homes of our students.
Immediately following the awards was the Cultural Fair, a fun celebration of our many diverse cultures, foods, and languages. The duo of mariachi bands in the CHS quad (from San Ysidro HS and Southwestern College) were a fun treat.
It’s time to register your student for next year! All new and RETURNING students must register. Please see the 2024-25 registration flyer below for details Visit the Online Registration Portal.
We are excited to officially announce that we will be expanding our Transitional Kindergarten (TK) program next year. The current half-day program will now extend through the afternoon. Please see the flyer below for the date and time of the Open House at Village and Silver Strand.
As I’m sure you have heard, California and California public schools are facing budget cuts in the coming fiscal year. You can stay informed of the district’s budget situation by attending the CUSD Budget Study Committee Meeting on Wednesday, April 17th at 3:45 in the District Office Board Room. Anyone is welcome.

Caught Being Awesome!
As our educators, parents, and community come together to connect, challenge, and champion our students, we are humbled by the outpouring of compliments. What a positive testament to our CUSD family.
Click here to recognize an employee or volunteer who goes above and beyond to make a difference. Those who are "caught" will receive a copy of the positive words that were shared about them and a "Caught Being Awesome" decal. Please take a minute or two to brighten someone else's day!
Mobile Device Protection Plan for Families With CUSD Chromebooks
If your student has a CUSD issued Chromebook, you are encouraged to review and consider purchasing the OPTIONAL Mobile Device Protection Plan (MDPP) for the 2023-2024 school year. The annual plan is designed to cover accidental damage of CUSD Chromebooks including screen breakage. In addition, the plan will protect against spills, fire, flood, natural disasters, and theft/loss. Mobile hotspots, power cords, cables, and other accessories are not covered. Intentional damage, improper device storage, and misuse are not covered.
The cost of the plan is $20 per device per year. The plan must be purchased annually at the beginning of each school year or at the time of registration to be valid. To maintain coverage, a new plan must also be purchased if a student is provided with a replacement device due to damage/loss of their previous device. This money will be used to create a dedicated pool of funding to replace or repair covered technology. All money collected through the program will go into a special account that can only be used to replace or repair technology that is covered in the plan. We highly recommend this low-cost protection plan. To purchase a Mobile Device Protection Plan for your student, please use the instructions at the following link: Mobile Device Protection Plan Purchase Instructions.
