The eLeader
The official digital newsletter of La Porte ISD
Greetings, La Porte ISD Family. Today is a great day to be a Bulldog!
This past week was a busy one in our district, with competitions, celebrations and all the other business as usual. The crisp mornings were also a sign that the fall has finally begun to arrive!
Although everyone's health and mental wellness is a top priority all the time, we used various celebrations last week during Wellness Week to emphasize the importance of physical and mental well-being, promoting awareness, education, and resources for individuals to prioritize their health.
Last week was also National School Bus Safety Week, during which school districts across the country promoted awareness of safe practices among students, parents, and drivers. We also celebrated our awesome Transportation Department for its commitment to excellence. Our drivers had special celebrations throughout the week, and we wrapped it up with a special pep rally and sendoff as they departed for their Friday afternoon routes. If you've not had the opportunity, check out this Jackson Moment featuring Delisha Brown — a La Porte alumna and outstanding driver/ambassador for our district.
Superintendent Shout-outs
- Mega shout-out to freshman Gianna Palomarez, who qualified for the UIL State Cross Country Championships! The future remains bright for La Porte's cross country programs!
- Kudos to the La Porte Bulldogs Football Team, which is now 5-0 in district play after a decisive win over Crosby this past Friday. I invite everyone to travel to Angleton this Friday, as the Bulldogs battle for sole possession of first place!
- Another huge shout-out to the Mighty Bulldog Marching Band and Color Guard for advancing to the finals at the UIL Area Marching Contest this weekend. We are very proud of you!
- Many thanks to the organizers and participants of Saturday's Project Graduation 5K at Sylvan Beach. This annual event helps support a safe, fun post-graduation on the night of La Porte High School Commencement.
- A big shout-out to our school counselors, who helped to ensure that Wellness Week was a great success. Thank you!
- Finally, kudos and many thanks to our bus drivers, dispatchers, mechanics and everyone else who ensures that our students are transported to and from school safely. We had a great time honoring our Transportation Department during National School Bus Safety Week!
In closing, I hope you are able to join the fun at La Porte High School on Monday during the annual Haunted High School event. Not only is this a lot of fun for the youngsters, it is also a fundraiser for our school organizations and food drive for our neighbors in need. (Three canned goods gets you in the door!) I look forward to a fantastic week ahead, and I appreciate your continued support and partnership.
In your service,
Walter Jackson, Ed.D.

Must-Knows For This Week
- La Porte ISD is excited to introduce the easy option of paying for all school fees/spirit items with our new RevTrak online credit card payment system. Simply create an account, find your campus, choose your fee to pay and check out. The best part is that you will not be charged a fee to use the site. Access RevTrak here. (If you are adding funds to your student’s meal account, you will continue to use the My School Bucks website.)
- The 2024-25 Student Handbook and Student Code of Conduct are available online. Please familiarize your student with the contents. We are strictly enforcing the district dress code; you can review it beginning on page 54 of the Student Code of Conduct. Thank you for helping us ensure that our students dress appropriately.
- If your child rides the bus, we encourage you to download the SMART Tag Parent app. With the SMART Tag Parent App, families enjoy great features such as push notifications for load/unload status, proximity to home/school alerts and real-time location of your student's bus. Questions? Call our dedicated Transportation Department at 281-604-7177.
- Breakfast and Lunch are FREE for all La Porte ISD students this year! Supplemental food, such as fruits and vegetables, are also free for students who bring their lunch. (No registration is necessary.)
LPHS Marching Band Advances to Area UIL Finals
To achieve Sweepstakes, a band must receive composite Division One (superior) ratings from judges. The band is directed by Jason Harvey; Mark Fennell and Wilmaure Mejos are assistant directors. Congratulations on an excellent marching contest season!
XC State Qualifier!
La Porte High School freshman Gianna Palomarez will run in the UIL 5A State Cross Country Meet after placing 19th in the Region 3-5A Cross Country Championships on Oct. 22 with a personal record of 20:08. The 5A girls state meet will be held Nov. 2 at Old Settler's Park in Round Rock.
