- Edison Spirit Day! Wear your Edison Spirit Wear
FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK
Dear Edison Families,
As we enter the holiday season, we know that gathering with family is very important. We also know that some family live far away and you may have to travel to be with them. Still we ask that you try to fit your family and vacation time within the school vacation dates. Our dual immersion program is very rigorous and our teachers plan meaningful lessons each and every day. If your child is not present, they will miss important instruction.
We've gotten a few requests for an Independent Study. We do not award independent studies for vacation days. They are for extreme circumstances when a student must miss school due to illness, death in the family or other extreme situations. Vacations, visiting with friends or relatives, or a trip to Disneyland are not legitimate excuses in the eyes of the State.
If your child does have a legitimate reason for an independent study, you must request the independent study two weeks in advance of their leaving date by filling out the independent study contract form. The teacher will provide a work packet and your child must complete all of the work by the time they return to receive credit and be excused.
When your child misses school without an independent study, those are unexcused absences. Our school loses money, and your child loses out on their education. If your child has too many unexcused absences, you will be asked to sign an attendance contract and possibly go to a district meeting. If your child is on permit and they have too many unexcused absences, their permit will not be renewed.
We hope your child will be present for all of the fun rich learning experiences we have planned in the next few weeks. Thank you for supporting your child's education and helping us do our very best to help your child grow and learn.
Sincerely,
Directora Ipiña
SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS
WEDNESDAY PARENT MEETINGS - COFFEE WITH THE PRINCIPAL AND EXPERTS
Each Wednesday, from 8:30-10:00 am, we have parent meetings in the Library. All parents are invited. Meetings are bilingual and there is a Zoom option at this link (although in person attendance is recommended).
This week we will be hosting Coffee with the Principal and Experts. Our expert this week will be Alma Williams, former 2nd and 3rd grade immersion teacher, former teacher Math Leader, and current Cotsen Mentor. She will present on how to support your budding Mathematician at home.
WINTER PERFORMANCES - Mark your Calendars
We have some winter performances coming up:
- PreK-2nd will perform choral music in Spanish during their music class.
- 4th will have their first informance of instrumental music during their music class.
- 5th will have a formal concert in the cafeteria.
- 4th and 5th will have a dance performance in the cafeteria.
Looking ahead, all grades will have a theater performance in January-February, 1st-3rd will have a dance performance in March, K-2nd will have a music performance in March, and 3rd-5th will have a music concert in May. We are excited for our students to share their artistic learning with you throughout the school year.
ART CART VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
If you have been interested in volunteering on campus, engaging with students, and helping the school, then we have an opportunity for you! We are looking for parents to support a lunchtime Art Cart.
This idea came from our students. They wanted to start an Art Club to further their art skills, bond with other students, and have an alternative activity at lunch that was calm and peaceful. We loved their ideas and passion so PTA bought us an Art Cart filled with art supplies to take out every Monday during lunch recess. Our counseling intern, Esmeralda, has been taking it out, but it would be helpful to have another adult there.
If you are interested in coming on Mondays from 11:45-1:15 to help with this, please click here to let us know your availability.
