The Souhegan Scoop
May 9, 2025

A Message from the Principal
This week is Teacher Appreciation Week, and while here at Souhegan we were excited to celebrate our fabulous faculty, in the spirit of our community we also took great pride in honoring all our school employees—from paraprofessionals to kitchen staff—who work tirelessly every day in service of our students and their families.
What made this week especially meaningful was the way our entire community showed up to join in the celebration. The PTSA, the Souhegan Cooperative School Board, and local businesses like The Black Forest, Moulton’s, and Aroma Joe’s helped make our staff feel recognized and valued. And of course, our students played a major role. We collected over 600 notes from students expressing their gratitude and admiration for the difference our staff has made in their lives.
It was the perfect way to kick off what is truly a season of celebration, with so many exciting events ahead—Prom, Division I Roundtables, awards nights, spring concerts, and of course, graduation. We’re grateful for the community we’ve built and look forward to finishing the year strong, together.
Warmly, Dana

Souhegan Announcements & Highlights
National Merit Scholarship Winner!
We are proud to announce that Kasen Fox, a senior at Souhegan High School, has been selected as a recipient of a $2,500 National Merit Scholarship—one of the most prestigious academic honors awarded to high school students in the United States.
These scholarships are awarded to only about 2,500 students nationwide—fewer than 1% of all high school seniors—and represent the highest level of recognition in the National Merit Scholarship Program. Winners are selected from a pool of over 15,000 Finalists based on academic excellence, leadership, service, and potential for future success. Kasen earned this distinction after being named a Semifinalist (an honor achieved by only 16,000 students nationwide) and advancing through a highly competitive application process.
This is an outstanding accomplishment. Kasen has demonstrated excellence in and out of the classroom, and we are incredibly proud of all he has achieved. Please join us in congratulating him on this well-deserved recognition!

Calling all overdue books!
In an effort to tie up some loose ends before the end of the year, we encourage students to stop by the Info Center and make sure they know what is currently on their library account. Please encourage students to check their emails for overdue notices. While students may need some texts through finals, we encourage them to return any library materials or instructional texts they are no longer using and pay for any lost materials. Senior library accounts must be clear before seniors can receive caps and gowns.
Lost or damaged materials can be paid for via cash, check (made out to “SHS Student Activities Fund” and dropped off at the Info Center), or credit card. To pay via credit card, please use this link to pay with MySchoolBucks, specifying the student’s name when paying.
Thank you!

What is your role at Souhegan?
Media Arts Teacher, I teach Video Production classes and Senior Film Seminar. I am also coach Swim Team and I am advisor to The Claw student news broadcast
How long have you been with Souhegan?
3 years
What do you love about your job?
I love teaching media arts in high school because it allows me to help students find their voices through creative expression. Media arts gives students the tools to tell their own stories- whether through film, photography, or digital design- and I love watching them gain confidence as they realize the power of their ideas. It's incredibly rewarding to guide them in developing both technical skills and critical thinking, and to see them collaborate, experiment, and grow as artists and individuals. Every project brings fresh energy, and I'm constantly inspired by my students creativity and curiosity.
What do you like to do outside of work?
Spend time outdoors running or hiking, YOGA. I also always have multiple art/craft projects I am working on ranging from paintings to embroidery. If you were given one wish what would it be?
I'd wish for one moment of absolute peace that I could return to whenever I needed it.
Do you have a favorite quote or mantra?
Make art like no one's watching - and then let them.
