Principals' Reflections/ Reflexiones del Director
Dear Creekside Families,
What an exciting month it has been at Creekside! There is so much learning going on each day, and so many things to be excited about as we continue to work and grow together in our community. As we welcome the month of March, we will be exploring our Core Value of Integrity, which means that we are all responsible for speaking in a way that is truthful and acting in a way that is aligned with our shared beliefs. We look forward to connecting with each of you over the course of this month! Thank you for your ongoing partnership and support.
Sincere regards,
Dr. Pollack
Dr. Pollack

Celebrating Black History Month!
Thank you to all of our teachers and scholars who have worked hard to honor Black History Month through learning about and sharing the incredible history, accomplishments, and contributions to every area of life and culture in our society of Black Americans. It's been a wonderful time at Creekside, and we will continue to learn about Black History, which is essential to our shared history, throughout this year and every year as we strive to learn from the past and build a bright future for all in our community. A special thank you to all of our performers and all who turned out for our Black History Celebration on February 27th!
We need to hear your voice on the 5Essentials Survey!
We need your feedback to help guide our school improvement efforts and better target our resources and interventions. Staff, students in fourth through 12th grade, and all parents and guardians are asked to complete the annual 5Essentials survey. The staff and students will receive an email with the direct link to the survey. The parent survey is available at info.u-46.org/5EssentialsParent.
Building Our Community - No Place for Hate
As part of Creekside'sNo Place for Hate campaign Student Council Leaders have developed monthly sessions that they facilitate, differentiated for grade levels, in each homeroom in the school. Our student leaders guide learning for all of our scholars focused on exploring identity, interpreting differences, challenging bias, and championing justice.
Partnerships in our Community - EPD
Our 5th and 6th grade scholars and recently hosted three officers from the Elgin Police Department. These community leaders shared information about the roles of police officers and led discussions about how we can all build stronger and safer communities.
Partnerships in our Community - GBPL
Ms. Tina and our partners from the Gail Borden Public Library brought in a special visitor to read to all of our scholars and teach about the role of public libraries. If you can, please take some time to visit our Gail Borden Public Library Branches to see the great things that are happening at our Library here in Elgin (the first public Library established by the state legislature in Illinois, Gail Borden is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year!!)
Celebrating the 100th Day of School!
Over the past month, our scholars have celebrated the 100th day of school in a number of ways. This has been particularly exciting in our kindergarten classrooms, who have been exploring the concept of one hundred as they build their number sense and reflecting on all that they have learned in their first 100 days of elementary school!
Building our Classroom Communities - Restorative Circles
Throughout our school, we have been building up our classroom communities through restorative practices, which help us to ensure that we have inclusive spaces where all of our students feel safe and cared for. In most of our classrooms this includes circles, where we learn important social emotional lessons and every student gets to share their unique voice.
WGN Friday Flyover at Creekside!
We had a great turnout for our Friday Flyover, when Creekside was featured on the WGN morning news! Even though it was a cold day, we had a great turnout as we greeted the WGN Traffic Helicopter and welcomed it to Elgin! Watch us on TV at this link!
