Hello Talahi Families,
What an amazing first few days of school! Thank you all for your patience with pick up and drop off. These are always difficult times to start the year, but I promise they will get faster:)
I would also like to bring to everyone's attention that we have BEFORE and AFTER school childcare available. We are unable to supervise students before 7:20 in the morning so if you are needing childcare, you can register for before school childcare at https://isd742.ce.eleyo.com/child-care/1/kids-connection
Please reach out if you have any questions with pick up and drop off!
Sincerely,
Mr. Court and Mr. Burks

Elementary Student and Family Handbook
Families,
Please review the handbook linked below. One large change that we are making to the handbook this year is the language below. We will not be allowing deliveries to the classroom for special occasions and birthdays. Please reach out for any questions.
DELIVERIES TO STUDENTS
Gifts, flowers, balloons and food (including birthday food items) from families and/or delivery services will not be allowed during the school day for safety reasons and due to the allergies of individuals.
End of The Day Transporation Changes
If you have to make any changes to your child's transportation, we ask that you call our school office before 12:30pm. Changes after 12:30 may not be able to be honored to the busy schedules at the end of the school day.
Additionally, we ask that you call our main office directly and not message the classroom teachers.
"In Our School, Every Friend is Family! You Belong Here!"
Consistent presence in the classroom allows students to fully engage in the learning process, build strong relationships with peers and teachers, and develop essential social and emotional skills. When students miss school frequently, they may struggle to keep up with the curriculum, miss out on important lessons and activities, and feel isolated from their classmates. Regular attendance sets a positive foundation for future academic and personal success.
Research suggests that early attendance patterns can predict future academic and behavioral outcomes. Students who are frequently absent in elementary school are more likely to experience difficulties in secondary school, including higher rates of truancy and dropout. Therefore, fostering a strong attendance culture in elementary schools is essential for setting students on a path to academic success and overall well-being.
Drop Off and Pick Up: Road Construction on University Blvd.
Estimates from the city have stated that University Blvd will NOT be open when school starts in September. Please see the map above for pick up and drop off patterns. We ask that families with PreK, K, 1, and multi-age families drop off on the red route and enter the Talahi parking lot off 15th ave. SE.
2nd and 3rd grade families should pick up and drop off students from 12th ave. SE.
Construction on University Ave. SE is estimated to take into October. We ENCOURAGE all eligible families to send students on the bus as bus drop off will be unaffected by road construction.
Before and After School Childcare Available at Talahi
At District 742 there are up to two options for families who are in need of before-school and after-school child care for their students.
Before School
For some of the elementary and middle level schools that have an earlier school start time, Kids Connection offers a before-school program. For more information visit Kids Connection. Talahi Kids Connection runs from 6:00am through 7:20am.
After School
Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Minnesota, hosts KIDSTOP, a child care program for students in grades K-6 that is offered in the eight elementary schools and runs from the end of the school day until 6:00 pm. In some cases, all day child care is also provided when school is not in session. Students can participate in many activities including Power Hour homework help, computer access, gym activities, outdoor games, arts and crafts or just hanging out with friends.
KIDSTOP has a non-refundable registration fee of $20.00 per child for the school year and $10.00 per child for summer. Registration includes a membership to any Boys & Girls Club unit. Starting January 1, 2015, the all-day rate for KIDSTOP will be $24.00 per child, and after-school KIDSTOP will be $9.50 per child. All-day hours are from 6:30 a.m. - 6 p.m., and sites vary. Scholarships and county assistance are available. For more information, please contact your child’s school or the Boys and Girls Club at 320-252-7616.
PAKRAT Reading Program
Hello families!
We are getting ready at Talahi to start our PAKRAT reading program for the 2024-2025 school year. PAKRAT stands for People And Kids Reading All Together. Your student will soon be sent home with a clear plastic ziplock bag that has a book and a tracking sheet in it. Each day your student will get a new book to read at home. Please take time to read with your student. When you are done reading, you will write the title of the book and sign your name on the sheet. Then send everything back to school to get a new book the next day. Our school goal this year is to have each student read 15 or more books on each sheet. Any family member or friend is welcome to help your student with their reading. There will be four celebration parades throughout the year at school for your student to participate in if they reach their goal.
We cannot wait to see our readers grow this year.
