Lockdown Drill
School safety is a top priority! As such, emergency preparedness is crucial for our students and staff. On Friday, Oct 4th, SGE students, teachers, and staff completed a Lockdown Drill in order to practice procedures for an emergency situation.
Big Kahuna is Here!
The Big Kahuna Fundraiser has begun and will last through Friday, October 18th! Our campus is allowed one fundraiser per year, and this is it! The money raised in this fundraiser will be used to enrich the environment for Shady Grove students and staff with things such as student incentives, staff awards, instructional supplies and resources, and family involvement activities. To give you an idea of the many ways these funds are used, we've listed some of the things purchased with last year's Big Kahuna proceeds:
- Children's' books used for individualized reading instruction
- Field trip T-shirts for every student
- Supplies for the Turkey Trot and Fall Carnival
- Classroom supplies
- Staff appreciation items
- Student attendance incentives
The funds raised in this fundraiser go a long way in helping SGE be the place to be! We thank you in advance for your support!

1st Six Weeks Awards Assembly
On Friday 10/4, we held our first school-wide assembly of the year! We celebrated:
- Responsible Readers (students who consistently practice reading at home) These students are given a golden token to the Book Machine for a book to keep of their own!
- Habit Heroes (students who demonstrated characteristics of Habit #1: Be Proactive) These students are coming home with a free pizza coupon to Mr. Gatti’s AND a $5 game card!
- Responsible Attendance (no more than 1 absence OR 1 tardy for the six weeks) These students earned an attendance brag tag to hang on their backpacks AND an extra recess!
Each six weeks is a clean slate and another opportunity to earn incentives! Keep up the great work, Shady Grove!

PEC Fall Teacher Spotlight
PEC is hosting a Teacher Spotlight Award to recognize the incredible work teachers do in their classrooms and communities. PEC is accepting nominations for the Teacher Spotlight Award through October 25 and encourages community members to fill out the form online.
From the nominations received, PEC will select teachers from across the co-op’s service territory to receive awards. This round’s winners will be announced in November and PEC will visit the teachers at their schools to present them with a thank-you basket of resources and materials to support classroom learning.
