Notes from Nurse Fickes
Please be reminded of the below information from the Parent/Student Handbook 2024-2025.
In order to keep the spread of illnesses to a minimum, students with contagious illnesses or conditions must not be sent to school.
Students who show evidence of acute illness will not be permitted to remain in school. Symptoms include fever, vomiting, excessive coughing, excessive nasal discharges, or diarrhea. Students arriving at school displaying any of the aforementioned symptoms will be sent home.
Students should be free of these symptoms for at least 24 hours before returning to school. Additionally, any students with head lice should be treated the same day. After completion of treatment, the child should return to the school nurse for clearance to be admitted to class.
Thank you,
Nurse Fickes
School of Choice
The school of choice application window is in full swing. Families that attend Coosa Elementary and have moved out of the Coosa school zone are required to apply for school of choice if planning to attend next year. Students that currently attend Coosa on an approved school of choice application, but are not adhering to the attendance, behavior and grade requirements will be receiving notices next week. If you have any questions, please contact administration or Mrs. Tyson, our data specialist.
Field Day
April 11th is our field day for all students. Above are the start times for each grade level. If you are an approved volunteer and are interested in assisting with this event, please reach out to your child's teacher. Parents are welcome to attend to cheer on the students. We ask that you arrive in enough time to be checked in at the front office. All guest/volunteers will be required to have a picture ID upon arrival.
Recorder Karate is Back!
Recorder karate is a fun annual tradition that our 4th and 5th grade students participate in each Spring. We already have our first Black Belt in Recorder Karate! Congratulations! Be sure to encourage your student to do the work to earn their Black Belt in Recorder Karate!
Student of the Month
Today we recognized the Students of the Month for the month of March. This month students were nominated by their teachers and peers for the character trait of self control. Congratulations to each to these students!
Coosa Chicks
We loved having the Coosa chicks at school again this year. Our students were able to see the incubation and hatching process.
Chalk It Up!
Chalk It Up! is a fun street painting event where artists, both experienced and new, create amazing and colorful pictures on the ground using special chalk. Everyone can come and watch these big, bright artworks come to life!
This exciting festival will also have live music from local bands, cool craft booths where you can find unique handmade items, and yummy food trucks. Best of all, it's FREE and everyone is welcome to join the fun!

SUNDAY, MARCH 30| 10AM – 5PM

Habits for a Happy Home
Sharpen the Saw - Taking Care of Yourself
This week, we focus on Sharpen the Saw, which encourages students to take care of their body, mind, and emotions. Help your child develop a routine that includes time for physical activity, rest, and relaxation. Encourage them to engage in activities they enjoy, such as playing outside, reading, or practicing mindfulness. Model the importance of self-care by ensuring you also prioritize your well-being. This teaches your child that maintaining balance is key to staying energized and focused.
Messaging - Contact Information
Please ensure your family’s contact information is up to date. If you have moved, have a new phone number, or need to update a student’s emergency contact(s), please contact Mrs. Tyson at 843-322-6100 or nichelle.mcewen-tyson@beaufort.k12.sc.us.
