What an amazing last week of school we had!! We started the week with May attendance awards. Congratulations to so many students (over 100!) who were on time, every day during the month of May. We also had an ice cream sundae party for the 98% Club which are students who missed four or less days of school this year. On the last day of school, we recognized 6 students who have had 100% attendance this year. We want to promote and establish good school attendance habits during these beginning years of school. One of our school goals this year was to reduce the number of students who are chronically absent. Students are considered chronically absent if they miss 10% (18 days or more) of the school year. We were able to meet this goal this year!! Preliminary data shows we had a 15% reduction in the number of students chronically absent. We are very pleased to see more students regularly attending school.
This week we also celebrated Kindergarten Graduation! This is such an awesome event each year. We appreciate all of our families who turned out to help us celebrate how much our kindergarten students have learned and grown. We also had a TK promotion celebration. We know they are more than ready for kindergarten!!
Thank you to our PTA who sponsored Kona Ice for all of our students and staff. With the hot weather this past week, it was greatly appreciated. Our PTA has already started planning for next year. Please consider joining this wonderful group of volunteers next year!
We bid farewell to our second grade students. These students were in kindergarten the first year I became principal of McKinley so I have been able to watch them for the past three years. What a spectacular group of students!! As we send them on to Meadow View, we do so with great pride in their academic accomplishments and their fun personalities.
I hope you all have a safe and adventurous summer. I am so grateful for such a supportive group of families and the local community. Our office is open from 7:45-3:45 each day through June 18. we will reopen on August 1.
