Sources of Strength is coming to CN!
Sources of Strength is a program designed to enhance positive relationships in order to help kids deal with the tough stuff in life – substance abuse, bullying, suicide, etc. Its mission is to increase help-seeking behaviors and promote healthy connections between peers and caring adults.
A few of our staff had the opportunity to join East Noble’s adult mentor training this fall. After our training session, we began the planning stages to start our own chapter of Sources of Strength at CN. Fortunately, we were able to receive a grant that will fund the implementation of SOS beginning in December!
We all know that building positive relationships with our students is key. Sources of Strength goes beyond the classroom walls, out into the hallway, and into the everyday interactions of our students. It gives them a model with multiple sources to lean on when they are feeling the weight of adolescence.
As we approach training, we will need some suggestions from you. We are seeking 8-10 peer leaders per grade level (grades 6-12). A peer leader is a student who will participate in a SOS training session and ultimately become an advocate for our program. Keep your eyes open -we aren’t necessarily looking for the obvious students. We are seeking students have a voice yet may not always use it. Look for those who impact, influence or sway their peer group. Typically, peer leaders consist of a diverse group of students. If you have someone in mind, please email Jamie Worman for a peer nomination form.
If you are curious about Sources, want to hear/read more about it – please ask!
