Eaton Fire Update
Dear PUSD Community,
I know this is a very stressful and uncertain time, and my heart goes out to everyone impacted by these devastating fires. Please know that we are here to support you and that our community’s safety and well-being remain our highest priorities.
Schools remain closed for the rest of the week. This ensures the safety of our students, staff, and families as the fire continues to pose significant risks.
Preliminary Facility Assessment: Our initial assessments indicate that the fire has substantially damaged five campuses. While most campuses are in good condition, we have confirmed damage to five campuses in Altadena.
Eliot Arts Magnet Middle School is damaged.
Franklin Elementary, which closed in 2020, has sustained damage to about 80%.
Three campuses that house charter schools have sustained substantial damages (Edison, Loma Alta, Noyes)
Please note that this information is preliminary. The fire is not yet contained, and conditions are still evolving. We will continue to monitor and assess the situation as it develops.
Recovery and Next Steps: Even as we respond to this emergency, we are also focused on planning for recovery and next steps. We know that many of you have suffered immense losses, including your homes. To support students, families, and staff, we are gathering resources to share with you in the coming days.
We are deeply grateful for the outpouring of support from community partners and fellow educational leaders who have stepped forward to help in this crisis. Your generosity and solidarity are a testament to the power of “us” in PUSD.
We have been through a lot together and will get through this because of our strength and resilience. Please continue to take care of yourselves and your loved ones. We will provide more updates tomorrow. Until then, please stay safe.
Sincerely,
Elizabeth Blanco, Ed.D.
Superintendent
