Last Sunday's Events
From the OUUC Stewardship Team
Celebrate Love and Comfort at this Thursday’s Dinner
Our theme for this year’s Stewardship drive is “Rooted in Love." We all need some love and comfort in these times, so come join us on Valentine’s Eve. The Board is providing the ultimate comfort food–macaroni and cheese with lots of extras–and the OUUC bakers will bring Valentine cookies. We’ll celebrate the start of our Stewardship Drive! We’ll nourish our bodies, hearts, and community with a shared meal, celebrating the joy of being together and the importance of connection.
Everyone is invited–come enjoy the meal. The OUUC board is hosting this special evening. Join us as we kick off the Stewardship Drive, reflecting on the time, talent, and resources that keep OUUC’s vital work going strong.
Thursday evening, February 13 from 5:30–6:30 pm. Meals always include vegan, gluten-free, and kid-friendly options. Everyone is welcome for food and fellowship, with donations gratefully received to support the cost of food as you are able.
This Week
Unitarian Universalist Association Joins Interfaith Lawsuit Against ICE
The Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) has joined with a multifaith coalition and the Institute for Constitutional Advocacy and Protection to bring a lawsuit challenging Immigration and Custom Enforcement’s (ICE) “sensitive locations policy.” This policy removed sanctuary protections for refugees and immigrants in places like churches.
As UUA Executive Vice President Carey McDonald affirms, “As Unitarian Universalists (UUs), fighting for justice and liberation for all people is at the heart of our faith tradition, which recognizes the spark of the divine inherent in every person; our sacred spaces must continue to offer sanctuary to those who face oppression, violence, or alienation, including immigrant communities.”
You can learn more in the UU World story here.
You can also join a webinar with the UUA's legal counsel on Friday, Feb. 21 at 11 am Pacific. Please register here.
30 Days of Love 2025
A Side With Love message provides political education and context for each weekly theme with lessons and inspiration to move through these times.
Each week’s resources will be published on Tuesdays and include the following: A journal practice to reflect and dream to chart a course with clarity and care, a creative/art practice to ground in the beauty and abundance of imagination, a body practice to ground us in resilience and renewal, and a family-friendly, multigenerational activity that builds community as we take action for justice. More information here.
Sewing Ministry
Saturday, February 15
12:30 - 3:30 pm
If you enjoy simple sewing and friendly conversation, join us to work on an ongoing project, or design one yourself from our stash of donated fabrics. We're currently halfway through making the top for an auction quilt - long strips to sew together in straight lines! - putting together a lap quilt, and mending a donation quilt.
You're most welcome to just drop in, or contact Claudia McNeill or Wendy Tanner if you'd like more information ahead of time.
Prayer Group
Saturday, February 15
10:30 am
“The urge to pray is universal. We know of no cultures, past or present, in which prayer does not occur. People pray when they are happy and sad, during celebrations and tragedies, at births and deaths, during peace and war, in cathedrals and cars, in poverty and plenty. Prayer, it seems, is in our blood.” (Larry Dossey)
Prayer can be a powerful tool in your own, individual spiritual life and the power of that practice is multiplied when shared with others. In the UU fashion, prayer may be spoken or silent and belief in god or any creed is not a requirement!
Action Hour Actions For This Week

Preparing for OUUC Building Closure
The recent snow in Olympia made me aware that a decision to close the OUUC building on Sunday morning is much more complex with two services. With one service, we’d just offer that service online; two services are a bit trickier.
So, we’ve thought ahead about how we’d handle Sunday mornings and want to share that plan so we can all be as prepared as possible.
There are many reasons we’d close the OUUC building, including weather and a power outage. If we do have to close the building on a Sunday morning, we plan to offer one service online at 10:45 am; there would be no service onsite at 9 am.
This is our process for giving notice of any change in access to the OUUC building or changes in programs:
We will make the decision as soon and as quickly as we can.
We will post the information on the OUUC website in a slider (the large boxes at the top that rotate).
- We will send out an email to the Realm News and Information list.
- We will post signs at OUUC if it’s possible to do so safely.
- We may also send out an email to our list that receives the Tuesday Update and Thursday Spark.
If the building is closed on another day of the week, we will contact the coordinator or host of the events scheduled (including staff) and let them know so they can notify their participants.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
With gratitude for your flexibility,
Quick Notes
Facilities Manager, Marie Arensmeyer, will be working remotely for several weeks. During this period, please take extra care to leave church spaces better than you found them after use. Please direct any questions related to the Building and Grounds to Business Manager, Isaac Jennings.
Beware of periodic scammers via email and text. You may be contacted by scammers impersonating Rev. Mary or other church staff. Scammers also try to reach people via text. Often, they will ask for you to contact them right away, and they may ask for financial assistance/information or contact information of others at the church. Always double check and make sure the email or text was sent from a source you recognize. Scammers will create new addresses that appear like a known email address. When in doubt, check in with the person in your life who appears to be trying to contact you, using a known contact method.
Download the flyer below if you would like a list of OUUC events for February. Great for posting on your refrigerator!

The program can be found here. You can find Bill on most Thursday evenings and Sunday mornings at OUUC.
