MPVA Weekly Update
April 8-12 ,2024
Dear Parents and Students,
To our families of the Islamic faith, we want to wish them a Happy Eid this week. It is at times like this that we recognize and celebrate the rich cultural diversity we have in our school!
A friendly reminder that Wednesday is a school holiday. We will return on Thursday (Purple Day).
Finally, we have five instructional days before our first STAAR test. We will administer the STAAR Reading assessment on April 16. Please help us by continuing to encourage your students to do their best in school, come prepared daily with their homework/assignments done, come to assigned tutorials, and continue to bring their fully charged Chromebooks. Working together we can help our students achieve the best possible academic outcomes.
Let's make this a great week!
Respectfully,
Mr. Sarabia
Academics are the mind of our school. Athletics are the heart of our school. Arts are the soul of our school. #WeAreMPVA
MPVA Updates
Visitors Window
Just a friendly reminder that, in an effort to avoid classroom disruptions, we kindly request that parents refrain from dropping off lunch, including outside food such as Chick-fil-A, McDonald's and etc. at the Visitor's Window during school hours. We encourage you to send your students with their lunches in the mornings or allow them to participate in the free HISD hot lunch provided in the cafeteria.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in creating a smooth learning environment.
Attendance Appeals
Attendance appeal hours were due on March 22, 2024. Students who have not completed their recovery time are encouraged to continue until all hours are completed.
We are in the process of notifying students who have recovery time during the second semester of school.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact D.Bolden (Counselor), K.Moody (Counselor), B. Perez (Wraparound Specialist), and Silva Alvarado (Attendance Clerk).
Respectfully,
The Attendance Committee
Parent Summit
Greetings!
The Office of Special Education Services is hosting its annual Parent Summit on Saturday, April 20, 2024, in the West Division. This year’s theme, “Walking Through It Together,” is centered around growing and maintaining strong relationships with our parents and community.

World Autism Month
April is World Autism Month, which was founded in April 1970 by Bernard Rimland, Ph. D., a psychologist and autism researcher. He chose the month of April to coincide with his son's birthday, as well as the start of springtime for new beginnings.
This month, we will celebrate inclusivity on our campus and support World Autism Month by wearing blue on Fridays.

CASH COLLECTIONS ON CAMPUS will be Mondays in April beginning April 8th. The PTO will be in the cafeteria during lunch to take donations, issue receipts, and give t-shirts to donating students. Teachers cannot accept money! Remember, all 8th Graders will receive a class shirt - you can enter your student's information through the PTO website or donate in person to receive it early, but all shirts will be delivered on or around May 1st regardless of donation amount https://mpva.membershiptoolkit.com/Open_Forms.
School paperwork, waivers, etc will all be coming from your teachers at school, and will need to be returned to school in a timely manner. Also, any questions regarding promotion ceremonies need to be referred to MPVA staff. Please watch for all paperwork and instructions and visit the 8th Grade page on the MPVA website for updates. https://www.houstonisd.org/domain/55929.
