Marcus Villacorta presents to a group of educators at the Philadelphia Museum of Art
Marcus told his story about the creative process to a group of educators at the first Engaged Exchange. This was a Salon hosted by the Teacher2Teacher community at the Philadelphia Museum of Art in partnership with the Gates Foundation. Marcus gave an engaging talk about his experience learning at an Inquiry-based school and how that has opened his world to the possibility of seeing things from all perspectives, thinking in 3D. He spoke about his school math project led him to the school maker space and then to his work with the Department of Making and Doing.

Marcus walked the educators through his process of creating a special box for this event. He outlined the trial and error he went through to get to this product. He mentioned that "mistakes are gifts" that lead to future projects.

Marcus did an amazing job at engaging his audience of educators, giving them a bird's eye view into the importance of allowing students to make mistakes and experiment throughout the learning process.
Marcus's mentor: Alex Gilliam
Marcus showed us that teachers are not just in the classroom and that adult mentors make a huge difference in the lives of our students. Alex Gilliam works closely with our SLA Beeber students and with students all over our country. Alex was the keynote speaker at the event.
