Principal's Message
Dear GES Families,
As we enter the month of November, a season of thanksgiving, we want to express our sincere gratitude for your continued support of our school community.
We are thankful for our dedicated teachers and staff who work tirelessly to provide high-quality instruction and engaging learning experiences for our students. Their commitment to our students' success is truly inspiring.
We are also grateful for our amazing students. We appreciate their enthusiasm for learning, their perseverance through challenges, and their positive attitudes. It is a joy to see their smiling faces each day.
Finally, we want to thank our families for your partnership and support. Your involvement in our school community makes a significant difference.
We look forward to continuing to work together to create a positive and supportive learning environment for all.
Wishing you well,
Ms. Black
Title 1
We are excited about our Fall Festival Math Night on November 21, 2024, from 5:30-7:00 pm. In the cafeteria, students will create a Friendship Mix by using math skills to purchase ingredients with their Eagle Cash. In the gym, families will have the opportunity to choose from twelve different interactive math activities. This will be a night to remember!
The holidays are approaching and family and friends will be gathering. This is a great opportunity for students to read their favorite books in front of an audience! Does your child like to write stories? Have them keep a journal of all of the activities and adventures throughout the holidays. Then ask them to sit in the author's chair and share one of their stories with the family!

Positive Behavioral Interventions & Support
October has been an exciting month! The School Store started the week of October 16th. Each classroom has a set schedule with a day and time. Students will use an order form to request what they would like to buy with their earned Eagle Bucks. Store items may include but are not limited to different types of pencils, bracelets, erasers, pop-its, and pencil toppers just to name a few.
GES Celebrations
We had a fun and successful Character Day here at Gainesboro Elementary. There were so many creative costumes seen throughout the hallways.
Student of the Month
These students have been selected as a true representation of a respectful, reasonable learner!
We are so thankful to Shawnee Spring for donating 500 pumpkins to GES for our students!
On Thursday, October 10, students participated in the Crunch Heard ‘Round the Commonwealth by taking a bite out of a fresh, Virginia grown apple on the same day as other schools around the state of Virginia!
Instructional Highlights (Inspire 2025+)
Students move into the second quarter of instruction during the month of November and should be well into academic learning. We will also spend time celebrating the success of quarter 1 during our Student Recognition Ceremonies during the end of October.
At GES, our awards are connected to the Inspire 2025 initiative through Frederick County Public Schools. Students are encouraged to embody our Portrait of a Graduate characteristics throughout the school day, and you can encourage these at home, too!
To learn more about our Portrait of a Graduate Awards and to view some student friendly descriptors, please visit this link. We encourage you to talk about how these characteristics can be applied to life in and outside of school.
Wellness Wisdom
Guidelines to help you determine if your student is ready to return to school after an illness.
• Fever free for the past 24 hours without the
use of fever-reducing medications such as
Tylenol or Ibuprofen. A fever is defined
as a temperature ≥ 100.4℉.
• No vomiting or diarrhea within the past 24
hours.
• After at least 24 hours of antibiotic therapy
for bacterial illnesses such as strep throat,
pneumonia, conjunctivitis, (pink eye), etc.
• The child’s appetite and activity level have
returned close to normal.
• Cold symptoms that are mild enough so as
not to interfere with your child’s ability to
participate in the activity of a normal
school day or infect other students.
If you have any questions as to whether your child may return to school after an illness please feel free to call the school nurse.
With the days getting cooler please make sure your child has a jacket appropriate for the weather. We do have recess and PE outside unless it is raining or temperatures are below freezing. If you need assistance with this please reach out to the school.
As a reminder, when submitting notes for PE or about your child’s health, please include your child’s first and last name.
