GLOBE Update
Safety at GLOBE | September 5, 2024
A message from the Executive Director
Dear GLOBE community,
We are deeply saddened by the tragic school shooting that took place in Barrow County yesterday. While this incident did not directly involve our district, we understand it may cause concern and anxiety, and serves as a reminder of the critical role we collectively play in the safety of our school community.
In light of this event, I want to reassure you that the safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our highest priority. We understand that news like this can be alarming and unsettling, and we are taking this moment to reflect on and reinforce our safety protocols.
Our Commitment to Safety:
We are in close communication with DeKalb County Schools Department of Public Safety to stay informed and proactive in maintaining a secure environment at GLOBE.
Our security measures, including regular drills and controlled access to the building, are designed to protect our students and staff.
Please support this effort by complying with protocols for building entry- and not holding the door for anyone.
Additionally, we want to remind students that making online threats is subject to school disciplinary action. Reposting a threat is as good as making the threat itself and will be subject to consequences. All students and families are urged to refrain from posting or reposting threats and/or rumors online.
We encourage parents and guardians to speak with their child(ren) in age-appropriate ways about the seriousness of any incident and the importance of making the right choices. Please reiterate that if they see or hear something, they should report it to a trusted adult or school administrator immediately. When our school receives any type of threat, including those that can appear as "joking", we immediately move into action, and follow all protocols. Please know we will continue to be vigilant in maintaining a safe and secure learning environment here at GLOBE.
We are saddened for the families of the Barrow County School District and the entire Winder community. We will keep them in our thoughts as they cope with their loss and support their students and staff in the coming days. Indeed, it’s a good time for all of us to renew our focus on the Community, Respect, and Empathy parts of CREST.
Sincerely,
Christi Elliott-Earby
Executive Director
