Superintendent's Update - 4.11.2025
Dear CPS Community,
I hope you all had a wonderful week and are gearing up for the last four days of school before April vacation!
Several of our students deserve a huge round of applause. Senior Jennifer Yu was named the North Region Student of the Year by the Massachusetts School Administrators’ Association National Honor Society Committee. Sophia Roy and Klara Vaskova both had great success at the Massachusetts Speech and Debate League State Tournament on April 5. And our student-musicians had a tremendous showing at the Massachusetts Instrumental and Choral Conductors Association Festival, bringing home numerous medals, including two golds. You can read more about these outstanding achievements in this newsletter.
Tuesday, April 15, is going to be a busy day at Chelmsford Public Schools. Chelmsford High School juniors will be participating in the Career Exploration Breakfast in the morning. Then in the evening, we have several events taking place. The Winter Varsity Awards ceremony will be held in the gym at CHS at 6:30 p.m. Harrington Elementary School will be hosting its STEAM Fair beginning at 6:30 p.m. And Parker Middle School’s Best Buddies will be taking on members of the Chelmsford Fire and Police Departments in a charity basketball game. Buddies vs. Badges will tip off at 6:30 p.m. in the McCarthy Middle School gym. We also have the School Committee’s reorganization meeting starting at 7:00 p.m.
Another event of note that’s happening next week is a presentation and panel discussion about restorative practices for parents and caregivers. This event will be held via Zoom on Wednesday, April 16, at 6:30 p.m. and will feature a group of parents who are invested in restorative practices sharing their stories and answering questions. Please see the flyer in this newsletter for more information about the event, as well as a link to join the discussion.
Chelmsford’s Annual Town Wide Cleanup is taking place from Saturday, April 19, to Sunday, April 27. This is a rewarding opportunity for folks of all ages to commemorate Earth Day on April 22. Students and families are encouraged to participate, especially those in high school looking to earn community service hours. Visit the Chelmsford Recycling Committee’s website to learn more about this event and to register.
Also, the Chelmsford Friends of the Library are holding their annual Book Sale today and tomorrow for those looking to stock up on some reading material. As always, they will have a large selection of fiction, non-fiction and children’s books available, along with DVDs and CDs. Head over to the Friends of the Library’s website for more details.
Have a great weekend!
Yours truly,
Jay Lang, Ed.D.
