Diwali
Diwali is a “festival of lights” that celebrates the triumph of light over dark and good over evil, and the blessings of victory, freedom, and enlightenment. The name comes from Sanksrit dipavali, meaning “row of lights.” On the night of Diwali, celebrants light dozens of candles and clay lamps (called diyas), placing them throughout their homes and in the streets to light up the dark night. Diwali is primarily celebrated by followers of the Hindu, Sikh, and Jain faiths. Though technically religious, it's also become a cultural event in North America celebrated with sweets and special foods. This year Diwali Day will be celebrated on Friday, November 1, 2024.
Learn more about Diwali by watching a video from National Geographic and by checking out some picture books shared by PBS!

Bruins Place in Math Meet
Brighton placed 3rd in our division for our first math meet with a score of 46 behind both Pittsford High schools scoring 51 and 55. We had 11 teams compete with a total of around 100 students. The Rubber Duck Racers scored a perfect 16 in the team round. We had 15 students score 6 or higher in their 2 categories. Jonathan Harrow scored the highest with a 9.
Go Bruins!
Brighton Rowing Girls Varsity Compete at the Head of the Charles Regatta
Congratulations to Brighton Rowing Club’s (BRC) Girls Varsity 4 rowers, who participated in the Head of the Charles Regatta (HOCR) on October 20: Vivienne Biedenkopf, Grace Quarles,
Anna Yartz (cox), Maya Torres-Panzer, and Ella Beyers.
They competed against 89 other teams from around the world. They did a great job in their event. The HOCR is an invite-only Regatta (teams apply and then HOCR decides which applicants can participate). Because of where our team placed in their event this year, BRC now has a guaranteed entry to the Head of the Charles next year!
Halloween Costume Guidelines
Please review if you choose to dress up!!!!!
First, students DO NOT need to dress up for Halloween. However, Halloween costumes may be worn at BHS on Thursday, October 31st.
- Make sure your costume allows for safe and full participation in all learning activities during the day including physical education.
Please follow the same guidelines for appropriate dress for school when evaluating your costume along with these more specific guidelines:
- Hats/head coverings may be worn, but faces must be visible and recognizable. MASKS and full face make up are NOT allowed.
- All “weapon-like” accessories for costumes must stay home and are NOT allowed on campus.
- Costumes must appropriately cover all under garments and should not be considered “revealing.”
- Costumes may not be offensive or promote the use of illegal substances.
- Students are NOT allowed to wear costumes or make up depicting blood or gore.
If students have a question about a costume, please have them contact one of the administrators by the end of the day Tuesday, October 29th.
