From Mr. Clemente
Dear Winter Park Band families,
Congratulations to the entire Band for making the best of a very busy week last week! Homecoming week is always a busy time, and especially when we have a major anniversary for the the program to celebrate.
Thank you to the Winter Park HS Band Alumni Association and their president Mrs. Jane Claus for all their work going into last week's celebrations! It was tons of fun to see so many familiar faces and have the chance to have alumni join our current Band students on stage. Our tradition of excellence is strong in Winter Park!
We had so much parent help last week to help make all our events successful. Thank you to Andrea Rediske and Jenniffer Randolph for coordinating uniform efforts for a parade, concert, and football game in three consecutive nights! Thank you to Laura Cambridge and our awesome team of parent chaperones for keeping the students safe at both the homecoming parade and football game! Thank you to Ellen DeLoach for coordinating the cake reception after our concert!
CHICAGO TOUR PARTICIPANTS & FAMILIES: Chicago Tour Payment 2 was due by Tuesday, 10/15. Thank you in advance for making payments in a timely fashion! Chicago Tour information can be found at http://www.winterparkhsband.com/chicago-tour-2025.html.
THIS Saturday, October 26 we will join up with our friends in the bands from Freedom HS, Apopka HS, Horizon HS, Ocoee HS, Dr. Phillips HS, and West Orange HS at WOHS for the annual West Side Showcase. This is by far one of my favorite events of the whole school year. For those who haven't been to the Showcase before, it is a non-competitive, no rating, super supportive pre-MPA style event. We will bring in a few FBA trained adjudicator’s whose sole purpose will be to provide feedback on ways to improve our shows going into Marching MPA. Each band will get to perform for all the other bands and then have a short clinic time with wind, percussion and guard adjudicators on the field after their show. SOTW performs BEATLEMANIA at 5:45 PM, and a complete itinerary is available on the Band website. There is no cost to attend the West Side Showcase and parking is free. Please come out to support your Sound of the Wildcats!
Rescheduled game update: According to WPHS administration, the home football game originally scheduled for Thursday, 10/10, and was first rescheduled for Monday, 10/28, is now again rescheduled for Thursday, November 7 at Showalter Field. Please mark your calendars. Since this game is now after Marching Band MPA, we will attend as if it were a playoff game as a full band pep band. Pep Band means that the students will perform in the stands for all 4 quarters of the game and take a halftime break for concessions.
NEXT WEEK we wrap up our journey with BEATLEMANIA at Marching Band MPA on Saturday, November 2 at Boone HS. This performance culminates the students' hard work and journey with BEATLEMANIA from Band Camp until now. This is another one of my favorite days of the school year, and I can't wait to see where the show ends up for this performance! SOTW performs at 7:20 PM, and a complete itinerary is available on the Band website. Tickets available here: https://teachtix.com/fba8/fba-district-8-marching-mpa-2024. $12 per person, children 12 and under are free. Middle school band students are free with their middle school band's t-shirt.
We will also be having some spooky season fun next week with Trunk-R-Treat right after rehearsal Tuesday, 10/29! Parents, get your car’s trunk décor planned and grab some candy for a fun, band family event! Trunk-r-Treat will begin around 8 PM after marching band rehearsal and our annual Student Costume Contest.
IN TWO WEEKS, we celebrate the entirety of our Winter Park Band community at the 10th annual Fall Festival of Bands on Wednesday, 11/6 at 7 PM in the WPHS Auditorium. The evening includes performances by the Audubon Park School Symphonic Band, Glenridge Middle School Symphonic Band, the Maitland Middle School Wind Ensemble, the Winter Park Wind Symphony, combined students from APS, GMS, and MMS along with the Wind Symphony, the SOTW Color Guard, and the SOTW Marching Band to top it all off! It is a night celebrating the entirety of our community, the success of our 6 - 12th grade program, and the bright future of the Sound of the Wildcats. The concert is free and open to the public, as are all our home Band concerts. A complete itinerary is available on the Band website.
Together, let's make it a great week!

All-County Band & Jazz Auditions
Auditions for the 2024-2025 OCPS All-County Bands and Jazz Ensembles are scheduled for Monday, November 18 at Lake Buena Vista HS. Students auditioning for All-County Band and/or Jazz will be able to register for their auditions in the coming weeks. All students in the Winter Park Band are highly encouraged to give the audition a try!

🎶 Hello Band Families! 🎶
What a note-worthy week we've had! Between the homecoming parade, our first concert, and the homecoming game, our band has been marching to the beat of success! 🎺🥁 We’re so proud of our incredible musicians, and a big thank you to our rockstar band families for your support. Y’all are the real headliners! Our volunteers deserve a standing ovation too—we truly couldn’t keep this bandwagon rolling without you! 🎶
Here’s the lineup for this week’s band gig:
🎼 Tuesday, October 22nd: Concert Uniform Fittings Got a missing piece, need a swap, or haven’t been fitted yet? Swing by the uniform room at 5:00 pm to meet Mrs. Rediske and Mrs. Randolph, and we’ll get you all jazzed up! Tux shirts, cummerbunds, bow ties, and jewelry will be handed out during class—so your student will be ready to rock their concert look! 🎩🎶
🎺 Thursday, October 24th: Home Football Game & Senior Night It’s one of our crescendos of the football season! Senior night is going to be extra special, but we may need some extra hands on deck. Mrs. Rediske will be cheering on her own graduating senior (cue the tissues 🥲), so if you can help out, we’d love to have you join the show!
🎷 Saturday, October 26th: West Side Showcase Dress rehearsal time for our Music Performance Assessment! 🎶 We’ll be hosting a uniform volunteer meeting at 1:00 pm in the uniform room so everyone knows the score. You guys make the magic happen, and we want to make sure everyone’s in sync!
🎵 One Last Encore: If your student has long hair, please remember it needs to be off the back of the uniform collar during marching performances. We have hair ties and bobby pins ready to go, but if your student arrives with their hair up and ready to jam, it would be a major help. We love pitching in, but we’re not quite running a backstage hair salon here! 😄💇♀️
Yours in band-tastic style,
Andrea Rediske (andrea.rediske@gmail.com) & Jenniffer Randolph (jenrandolph13@gmail.com)

Our Butter Braid fundraiser kicks off this week and runs Oct 22- Nov 5. At some point by the start date we will send home order forms with your student. The students will also have an online account where orders can be placed by friends and family.
Please note:
Butter Braids are frozen pastries and are ONLY delivered locally to our school, where they will be picked up by either the student or a parent on disbursement day. They are then delivered to the buyer by the student.
They must be kept frozen until ready to defrost and rise prior to baking.
Stay tuned for more info in the next newsletter.

Private Lessons
Whether a student is learning a musical instrument to pursue a career in music, or simply for personal musical fulfillment and recreation, private lessons are one of the best investments that a parent can provide for their musical child. When working with a private teacher, students receive one-on-one instruction from a professional musician who specializes on that instrument.
Unlike a full band rehearsal experience, studying with a private teacher focuses in on the student’s individual needs. Students who study privately once a week from a professional musician are usually those who excel and find Band more enjoyable. These students frequently earn positions in honor groups like All-State and All-County, and make entry into our more advanced bands like Wind Symphony and Jazz Ensemble I. Some even go on to earn college scholarships, even if they are not majoring in music!
Below is a link to a list of local private teachers. This list is not exhaustive, and there may be other individuals who are not on the list. If you are a private teacher who would like to be added to our list (or deleted), or know a private teacher who should be added, please contact Mr. Clemente at michael.clemente@ocps.net.
