Teaching our Children How to Pray the Rosary
The month of October is dedicated to the Most Holy Rosary. As parents, we share this remembrance with our children to model and teach this action of reverence to God. In praying the rosary, this practice also helps children to better understand prayer and our faith.
Below is a brief video for children to introduce and explain the significance of praying the rosary. Watch this video as a family, then practice praying the rosary this week. During our Family Faith In-Person Session next week, we will have various activities to help children better understand how to pray the rosary and its significance. This month's Family Faith In-Person and Virtual Zoom Meeting focus on this theme.
Date: Sunday, October 17 (Week of October Family Faith Zoom Meetings)
Time: 1:00PM-2:00PM
Location: Sacred Heart Church-Outdoors (Weather Permitting)

In our Gospel this weekend, we are reminded of the difficulty that comes from being too attached to things. Through these attachments, we easily forget that true fulfillment comes from the love of God and the love of others. It is a great blessing to be free enough to use things for the purpose of loving. Without God, this kind of loving is impossible.
The man’s riches are not the problem, but his attitude towards them. It is as if he is possessed by his own possessions, and not in charge of them. We recognize that we can not bring anything with us when we die, so our possessions must be given away. Wealth and material things can subtly control us. Do material things or worldly considerations get in the way of our relations with God and with others? Are we missing out on the real treasures in life like health, faith, friendship, love?
This Gospel highlights the fact that God in his Son understands our weaknesses and limitations, and still loves us. In discussing this Gospel with your children, the message can be quite clear and concrete. Children love their toys and possessions. However, as parents, we can help them to recognize how these materials are important, but our love for God is even more special.

Our Real Treasure Craft
In our Gospel this weekend, Jesus tells us to consider our materials possessions as secondary compared to our treasures in Heaven. With this project, children can conceptualize and understand this message by creating their "treasure" in showing of what is most important in their faith life with God
Materials
- Construction Paper
- Markers
- Scissors
- Decorating Supplies
Procedure
- Using a dark color construction paper, create and cut out the treasure pot. Label it with your name (for example: "Catherine's Treasure").
- Using yellow or gold construction paper, cut out circles as the "treasure". On each circle, write a true treasure (not a possession). Glue these treasures above the pot. Include GOD at the top! Some other examples include: family, pets, friendship, the Bible, etc.
- Decorate your Treasure Pot!

Alligator Caught with a Trash Can! #ShortsandSandals
Military veteran, Eugene Bozzi, put his years of skills and focus to the test in saving himself and his neighbors from this alligator - all while wearing shorts and sandals! Bozzi used a trash can lid to trap the wandering gator and closed the lid. He then took the gator to a nearby body of water and released it back into the wild.
Bozzi moved to Florida from Philadelphia only one year ago! Seems like he's welcomed and appreciated by his neighbors!!
