Message from Dr. Taylor
Dear Families and Students,
This is my last blog of the year! On behalf of the entire administrative team at Mundelein High School, I want to extend our warmest wishes for a fantastic summer break! As we close out another successful academic year, we want to take a moment to express our gratitude for your unwavering support, dedication, and resilience.
This year has been filled with remarkable achievements, personal growth, and unforgettable memories. We have watched our students excel academically, pursue their passions, and make lasting contributions to our school community.
To our graduates, congratulations on reaching this significant milestone! We are incredibly proud of your accomplishments and the positive impact you have made on our school. As you embark on the next chapter of your lives, whether it be college, career, or military service, know that you have the skills, knowledge, and character to succeed in whatever path you choose. Remember, once a Mustang, always a Mustang!
To our returning students, we eagerly anticipate your return in the fall, refreshed and ready to take on new challenges. Continue to nurture your curiosity, pursue your goals, and embrace the opportunities that await you.
To our parents and guardians, thank you for your trust, partnership, and unwavering commitment to your child's education. Your involvement and support are essential to our school's success, and we are grateful for the strong bond we share with our Mundelein High School families.
As you enjoy the summer break, we encourage you to engage in activities that bring you joy, explore new interests, and create lasting memories. However you choose to spend your summer, we hope it is filled with laughter, adventure, and personal growth.
We look forward to welcoming you back this fall for another exciting year at Mundelein High School. Until then, stay safe, stay healthy, and enjoy your well-deserved break!
Have a great summer, Mustangs!

Wellness Bash
Monday’s Wellness Bash started in the north parking lot, but was moved inside due to rain after 11 a.m. The move didn’t dampen the students’ spirits, nor their appetite. Thanks to our great maintenance team who shifted the event inside!

Incubator Pitch Night Success
Last night, 5/23/24, marked another successful night of pitches from our 3 finalist INCubator groups. The board of advisors, local business owners, administration, teachers, and community members were all present to see a fantastic evening of new ideas and business models.
The winner of the night was the group, CaddyGo! They earned $4,000 in scholarship money and will apply to be a part of the National Pitch that takes place in Chicago. We will hear if they advance in the coming month!
A big thank you goes to our community members, business owners, board of advisors, and donors who made this night possible! Mrs. Sherwin-Petrucci’s excellence in teaching was evident in how amazingly the students presented their ideas!
Evening of Jazz Excellence
Last Friday, 5/17/24, marked the final concert of the school year for our music area. The Evening of Jazz saw remarkable amounts of support from community members, parents, and friends of the program. The evening was headlined by our Jazz Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble, and West Oak Jazz Ensemble!
Scholarships were announced for some of our students and the evening was catered by local vendors from the Mundelein community! Mr. Sturgeon and Mr. Shelato did a fantastic job putting this anticipated annual event together; Bravo!

Creative Writing Town Projects
Students work together to brainstorm towns and select one town to build and create together. They create a town map, buildings, and characters that inhabit and/or work in those buildings. Each character has a separate story but read together, they build the mystery and conflicts of the town. This project strengthens student’s narrative writing skills, problem-solving skills, and provides them an opportunity to work together to design a product for a greater audience.
Readers can choose their own adventure to read by reading the hooks of the characters in the People and Secrets sections of the website and as they continue to read the character stories, they learn more and more about the town much like a soap opera. 😊 The homepage includes this year’s first and second semester town projects, and if you go to the Previous Town drop down, readers can read towns from prior years.
Weeping Willow
After the mass migration to space, only a few hundred people are left. The air is getting harder and harder to breathe, water is running out, and the magic of the Weeping Willow may be dying out. How will the town of Weeping Willow survive the devastation?
UNUA #11
The underground town of UNUA #11 has to rebuild after a nuclear war and the most recent tunnel collapse but can they? Civil unrest, black market, canibalism, mobsters, secrets, and government lies...

Our MHS Varsity volleyball team wrapped up their season on Monday at the Regional match against Palatine. In three hard-fought sets (25-22, 21-25, 23-25) but Palatine pulled out the win. Our Mustangs worked hard together and had some amazing plays. The Varsity program ended the season 18-12 and tied for 2nd place in the NSC. We are so proud of all that you have accomplished this season! Congratulations to all our MHS athletes! See you next season!

Some near misses last night as our season came to a close at the Grayslake Central Sectional, along with some other strong performances.
Julian Eagar came closest to qualifying for State, taking 5th in the 100m with a time of 11.11, 4/100ths of a second from State Qualifying. Ethan Connelly came within 7 inches of qualifying in the Triple Jump with a nearly 2 foot PR. Congratulations to Ethan on breaking the school record in the Triple Jump. His leap of 43’2.75” broke the previous record set in the 1970’s. Our 4 x 100 relay ran a Season's Best of 44.04, taking 8th. The foursome of Aubre Booker, Ian Murray, Ethan Connelly, and Julian Eagar dropped nearly a second off our next best time this season. Rounding out the scoring, Maddux Hermestroff tied for 5th in the High Jump with a leap of 5'9". Best thing about all those efforts is that besides Julian, all those guys will be back next year.
Our season may have come to a close, but we still have the banquet to look forward to. May 29th at 6pm in the school cafeteria-be there or be square!
It's been a pleasure and an honor to coach all you gentlemen this season. We have a lot we can build on next year. Until then- It's A Great Day To Be A Mustang!!!!
