EMS Update
August 30, 2024
Hello Excelsior Famliies!
As we reach the halfway point of the first quarter, I'm thrilled to share some exciting updates and events happening at our school. Our boys' volleyball, girls' softball, and wrestling teams are off to a strong start, showcasing their hard work and dedication on the court, field, and mats.
This week, we had a fantastic turnout for our student-parent-teacher conferences. Thank you for your engagement and commitment to supporting our students' success. A special shout-out to our incredible PTSA for providing two delicious lunches and a great breakfast during conference week—your generosity made a big difference for our staff!
Due to popular demand, we’re offering a second opportunity for parents to attend a virtual Digital Safety presentation by Kim Karr on Wednesday, September 4th, at 7:30 pm. This is an invaluable session you won't want to miss. All parents will recieve a Zoom link next week to access the presentation.
Additionally, we're eagerly anticipating our fall production of Peter/Wendy. Tickets will go on sale at noon on September 4th, so be sure to grab yours early! For more information on the production, please CLICK HERE.
Please note that there will be no school on Monday in observance of Labor Day. Enjoy the long weekend!
Thank you for your continued support, and here's to a strong finish to the quarter! If you have any questions, email me at jkeith@byron.k12.ca.us.
Sincerely,
Ms. Jamie Keith

Hello Excelsior Families!
I hope this message finds you well. As we continue to build a strong foundation for your child's education, I wanted to take a moment to highlight the critical role that regular attendance plays in their academic and social development.
Regular attendance is essential for several reasons:
Consistent Learning: Every school day is packed with new lessons and opportunities for growth. When students attend regularly, they have the chance to fully engage with the curriculum, participate in discussions, and build upon what they've learned the previous day.
Building Responsibility: Attending school regularly helps students develop a sense of responsibility and routine, which are crucial life skills. It also fosters a sense of commitment to their education, which will benefit them in their future academic and professional endeavors.
Social Connections: Middle school is a critical time for developing social skills and friendships. Regular attendance helps students build strong connections with their peers and teachers, which is important for their emotional well-being.
Avoiding Learning Gaps: Even missing just a few days can lead to gaps in learning that can be challenging to catch up on. Regular attendance helps ensure that students stay on track and do not fall behind.
We understand that there are times when absences are unavoidable due to illness or emergencies. However, we encourage you to make attendance a priority whenever possible. If your child is facing challenges that affect their ability to attend school, please reach out to us. We are here to support you and your child in any way we can. If you know in advance that your child will miss 3 or more days of school, please reach out to our office to set up an independent study contract. Independent study must be requested 10 days in advance of your child's planned absence.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter. Together, we can ensure your child’s success and make the most of this school year!
Warm regards,
Tanya Voqui, Vice Principal
Peter/Wendy
Volunteer Parents of the Arts Club in partnership with Excelsior Middle School, with arrangement by Playscript, Inc., presents PETER AND WENDY
In this lyrical, atmospheric interpretation of Peter Pan, Jeremy Bloom strips the familiar story down to its emotional essence. Peter lures Wendy away from her nursery to the magical world of Neverland, where she joins his adventures with Tinker Bell, Tiger Lily, the menacing Captain Hook, and the rambunctious Lost boys. The production features themes of love, adventure, friendship and loyalty from J.M. Barrie's original story! The production of Peter/Wendy will mesmerize audiences of all ages!
Tickets go on sale Wednesday, September 4th at noon.

Parent Volunteer Process
We want you on our campus and in our classrooms! For safety reason, all volunteers must be cleared following the below steps. The clearance process is available twice a year, dates below. If you plan on going on a field trip with your student, want to help in the classroom, or elsewhere on campus please start the process now to get cleared. At the middle school level, our greatest need is volunteers to support field trips, lunchtime activities, extracurricular activities (sports, plays, clubs), and leadership activities (socials, dances).
Volunteer Applications and Volunteer Driver Applications are ONLY accepted twice per School Year:
- School Registration through the first day of fall break (September 30th)
- February 1st through the first day of spring break (March 17th)
The process to get cleared to volunteer is quick and easy. Please CLICK HERE to access further information on our BUSD Volunteer Process. If you are already cleared or were recently cleared at one of our elementary sites, you do not need to resubmit any volunteer information unless your TB test has expired or you plan on being a driver this year (all driver info including DMV Driving Record, License, and Insurance Info must be up to date).
