News for November 7, 2024
Last week was action packed at Central Park Elementary. Enjoy pictures highlighting some of our activities.

Principal
We know that it is important for students to get fresh air every day and we will send students outside for recess as weather permits. Our weather guidelines are outside recess unless the temperature is below 0 or the windchill is -17 degrees. Please send snow pants, boots, jackets, hats and mittens everyday with your child. If you are in need of warm outerwear for your child/ren, please contact the teacher or the school office for assistance. It is a good idea to label the clothing as our Lost & Found is growing every day. We encourage families to check lost & found for any missing items.
mySAEBRs Screening
At Central Park, we are committed to improving the culture and climate of our school and supporting the whole child. One way we are addressing the whole child is by looking at student strengths and areas of concern for social, emotional, and academic behaviors.
This fall we will be administering a universal screening of social, academic, and emotional behavior skills to the students in your child’s class called mySAEBRs. This will be completed by students in grades 3-6. The screener is through FASTBridge, which is the platform used for other benchmark assessments. If you are interested in viewing the questions they can be found here.
This information helps us understand the needs of our students and to make effective plans at the school, class, and individual level.
If you do not want your child to participate, then please fill out the opt-out form or email or call Michele Wackman, Maria Hughes, or Karla Rhodes at Central Park. Letters in different languages are attached. Please let us know by Nov. 15th if you don't want your child to participate in this SEL screener.

A Message From Nurse Buck
How is your student sleeping?
We know that sleep is important but just how important is it? According to Dr. Andrew Huberman, “Sleep is the best immune booster, stress reliever, and emotional stabilizer available.” Are your students getting enough good quality sleep each night? The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that 3-5 year olds get 10-13 hours of sleep per night, 6-13 year olds to get 9-11 hours per night, and 14-17 year olds to get 9-10 hours per night. The key to better sleep is to set children up for success by creating a calming environment and avoiding stimulating activities before bed. With the end of Daylight Savings recently, now is a great time to work on your family’s sleep hygiene!
Here are 3 quick tips:
Have your student go to bed and wake up at the same time each day, even on non-school days.
Develop a relaxing pre-bed routine to make it easier to fall asleep quickly.
Turn off and put away electronic devices like TVs, tablets, and phones 60 minutes before bed and keep screens and electronics out of bedrooms.
Take care,
