Student Stories: Bay Port Student Help Desk Team
The Student Help Desk class at Bay Port allows students to get hands-on experience in the field of IT, without having to leave their school. This relatively new class gives students the opportunity to learn about customer service, help teachers troubleshoot IT issues, and gain real-world training while still in high school. Recently, the team helped the HSSD IT department with a new device rollout.
“It was impressive to watch Aanya, Masyn, and Ethan help staff and students, troubleshoot any issues, and get out of their comfort zone to provide great customer service in our building,” said Computer Science Teacher Mark McAllister. Special Education Teacher Sarah Jacobs also shared, “Ethan was extremely professional and ALL of the characteristics of the Profile of a Graduate were on display.”
As part of the class, students have the opportunity to earn an IT Fundamentals PRO certification through CompTIA. This online certification program teaches students about hardware, software, networking and other IT fundamentals. Nice work, Student Help Desk team!

He said, “If you need help or you are advanced in a certain subject they give you lots of opportunities to learn.” Dex enjoys his leadership roles at school, and is part of the Lighthouse team and the Commons Crew.
