Christmas Parade 2024!
By Caroline Monroy
Every year in Billings, there is always a Holiday Parade the day after Thanksgiving. This year The Crow Fair Royalty had a float in the holiday parade.
All of the princesses had to get the location of where our float was going to be and meet there by 12:30 p.m. to help decorate the float. That day was really cold, but we made our float look so cute!
The theme of the parade this year was supposed to be “Out of This World” or an alien-like theme. But we sort of didn't go by the theme, which was okay, the float still looked amazing as ever!
What was really great about all of it was being able to see all of the families that were there. Waving at all of the little babies and kids was so sweet.
There are about twelve princesses and almost all of them were there at the parade, including Arrow Creek Princess Caroline Monroy and Black Lodge District Princess Aaleigha Plain Bull.
Teacher of the Month: Loren Rausch
By Marena Zoey Bird Hat
The reason why he became a teacher in the first place is because he likes science, sharing knowledge, and he thinks kids are funny. He chose to work here at PCHS because he likes the culture and the small school. Also, getting to personally know each student well.
His teaching philosophy is, “If I’m not having fun and learning, the kids are not having fun and learning.”
A memorable moment he shared from his teaching career is having his classroom smell so bad from a dissection that it nearly clears out the entire school.
Teacher of the Month: Loren Rausch. “I completed my life's goal.”
Randy Falls Down
By Cedric Not Afraid & George Monroy
Randy Falls Down is the Information Technology (I.T.) Director for Pryor Public Schools and is in charge of the computers, software systems, technology, and video conferencing at PCHS. He has been working at PCHS for six years. He has a Masters degree in Computers and has been an I.T. Director for 30 years.
Randy graduated from PCHS and attended Pryor Public Schools K-12.
We asked him his favorite part of his job and he said “anytime I get to work with students. It’s not the main part of my job. I do all the backend stuff but whenever I get to help students and work with students, talk to students, that’s what makes me love this job and everything I do. “
“The servers, technology, Chromebooks, software, that is for the students. That’s the main thing, because I remember what it felt to go here and then go off and flunk out of college just like that the first time. So if I can back students up with technology and opportunities and grants that’s what I do.”
He is also in charge of the new elementary school construction, managing the various projects and working with the architects and the engineers that have been doing that project out there.
He also stated that his most memorable project was the Randy Fallsdown memorial basketball court.
The final thing he wanted to say was “I love my job. I’ve worked all over, traveled all over the United States, had jobs everywhere and this is the job I love. It’s close to home, in my own community, working with the kids in Pryor. I love this job, it’s the best job I’ve ever had”.
Randy was also part of one of the greatest basketball teams to ever play in Pryor bringing home two state championships in 1980-81 and in 1983-84
Mrs. Hand, Our New History Teacher!
By Jerry Plain Bull, Jr. and James Ball
Plenty Coups High School has a new History teacher this year. Her name is Kristina Hand. She is originally from Arizona.
She lives in the Billings area where she has worked previously as a substitute teacher.
“My cousin taught here a long time ago and she loved the community,” said Mrs. Hand. “She told me it was a good place to teach.”
Apparently, her cousin was right. “I love teaching at this school,” Mrs. Hand explained. “The students are great and respectful.” She added that, “The staff is very welcoming and supportive as well as the community.”
She has subbed in the Billings Area and have taught at one other school.
“I am originally from Arizona and I like the area where I live now better.”
New English Teacher Lewis Matalavy
By Tasia Goes Ahead
Mr. Lewis Matalavy is enjoying his first year teaching at Plenty Coups High School.
“Teaching is challenging but I love this school and everyone who works here ” said Mr. Matalavy. “I think that the students are as brilliant as they want to be.” As for why Pryor? I chose to teach in Pryor because of the similarities to where I was raised.”
Explaining that, “Some of the more challenging places I taught were in an alternative school in rural Northern Pennsylvania and Walbrook High in Baltimore’s west side.”
During years when he was not teaching he worked at the Procter and Gamble paper making manufacturing plant near his hometown of Mehoopany, Penn. “I was raised on a small farm about 10 minutes from the facility in an area known as both the Endless Mountains region and North Appalachia.”
When asked if he coached Cross Country because he ran in high school, he said, “I did not run Cross Country because I played soccer from age 5 through my senior year.” But added, “I feel blessed that I was able to coach and have the opportunity to get to know others. I am also thankful that I was able to see most of Montana and some scenic areas right here near Pryor.”
He also said, “Thank you for all the kindness I have received.”
