What's New in Owl Classrooms:)
Community Circle at RVA
This year, all of our scholars, including our high schoolers, are beginning their day with Community Circle in their Homeroom class. Our entire school engages in thoughtful reflection and conversation at 7:45 when learning comes alive to 8:00am. During that time, our homeroom teachers provide a reflective prompt for scholars to engage in, concepts to keep in mind to help build mindfulness and social emotional capacity, and prepare for a productive and meaningful day of learning. The homeroom teacher also utilizes this time to discuss school wide announcements as well as grade level specific announcements, activities, and events. The homeroom teachers reminds scholars whether or not the day is designated as an A (Yellow) Day or a B (Blue) Day and can help answer questions for scholsrs about their schedule for the day. At the end of the block, our morning announcements video is played. This video serves as a daily reminder for scholars regarding our expectations as we set the tone to soar into learning:). Scholars can catch episodes of our Morning Announcements Show on our YouTube page! If you haven't already, subscribe today! Aannnddd....be on the lookout for opportunities to star on our show! Hoot Hoot)
Scoring with SCORE! (Behavioral Expectations)
As a reminder, RVA is an RPS school and all of our students are subject to the district's Student Code of Responsible Ethics. Next week, during our Community Circle time, Homeroom teachers will take a few moments to highlight the SCORE with our scholars. We want all families and scholars to be aware of our expectations so that we can continue to fly in the same direction:)
Please know that at RVA we adhere to the following progressive steps of intervention and support when scholars have violated an expectation of SCORE. Some of these violations may include but are not limited to the following: dress code violations, not being on screen and seen during live instruction, displaying or engaging in inappropriate activity on screen, engaging in off task behavior or violating the district's acceptable use policy for technology as identified in Go Guardian.
1. Verbal warning to the student and request. Teacher contacts parent. Referral provided.
2. One on One conference with the student. Teacher contacts parent. Referral provided.
3. Removal from the class session. Teacher contacts parent and admin team. Referral provided.
4. Owl Recovery Plan initiated (see more info in Family Handbook).
5. Admin Recommendation for Zone School Placement (repeated behavior and attendance concerns only)
If you have any questions about our policies with regards to behavioral expectations and our intervention strategies and supports, please do not hesitate to reach out. Let's continue to set the bar high and go for the gold!
