FCVS Updates - July 2024
Principal's Message
Welcome to School Year 2024-25
Dear FCVS Families,
Welcome to the 2025 school year at Frederick County Virtual School (FCVS)! We are excited to have your family as part of our learning community. We have some exciting updates to share that will enhance our students' learning experiences and provide greater flexibility.
Transition to a Comprehensive Online Learning Model
Following the success of our Spring 2024 pilot in the Remote Virtual Program (RVP), we are expanding our offerings to include fully developed online courses. FCVS has been providing high-quality online courses since 2010, giving students more control over the time, place, and pace of their learning. Starting this year, many RVP courses will move to a more comprehensive online model with synchronous instruction at least once a week, although some courses will still require daily attendance.
Weekly Synchronous Instruction and Attendance
Attendance is crucial as these sessions provide valuable interaction with teachers and peers. Teachers will communicate required attendance days in the course syllabus and during the first days of school. It is essential for students to attend the first three days for onboarding to the Learning Management System (LMS) and course expectations.
Support During Asynchronous Instruction
On days without scheduled synchronous sessions, students will engage in asynchronous learning. This flexible approach allows students to manage their time while meeting deadlines. Supports include:
Teacher Support: One-on-one or small group meetings.
Special Educators and Specialists: Continued accommodations and support for students with IEPs/504s.
Extended Learning and Enrichment Time (ELET): Additional academic support, enrichment, and time to catch up on coursework.
Looking Ahead
As we transition the RVP model, we are committed to providing a high-quality, flexible, and supportive online learning environment. We believe this new model will offer enhanced opportunities for academic success and personalized pathways.
We look forward to a successful school year and are here to support you and your student(s) every step of the way. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please contact your student’s School Counselor:
