Exciting Free Opportunity for Middle School Scholars
This is an amazing opportunity for Trix middle school students that combines STEM education and entrepreneurship.
The Jerome Bettis Foundation and JOURNi Foundation have teamed up to present the Innovation Huddle Youth Program. This free after-school initiative, funded by the Ford Motor Company Fund, is designed to introduce middle school students to App development and entrepreneurship through engaging, project-based learning. Innovation Huddle offers students dynamic collaborative experiences, allowing them to build their first app or showcase a business concept.
The program is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m. at the Ford Resource and Engagement Center (FREC), located at 15491 Maddelein Street, Detroit, MI 48205. The center is conveniently situated just 6 minutes away from Trix Academy.
We would be delighted to extend this program opportunity to your students. To accommodate your students' dismissal time, they are welcome to arrive at 3:40 p.m.
Please let me know if I can present the program to your students either through individual class sessions (5-minute presentations) or a morning assembly. Space is limited, and selected students will be notified soon.
The flyer is below. I just found out about the program on Friday, but the program starts this week. However, the program coordinator is excited for Trix scholars to take part so she will make arrangements for families that wish to participate in the program to start even a little late.
Scholars will receive applications and get more information on Monday, March 11, 2024
Academic Focus
We have a full 5 weeks until we start our end of the year assessment period. So we are doubling down on our academic focuses for this year. Please be sure to ask you scholars about the things they are working on in their classes.
- Focusing on math facts - trivia, flashcards, games and competitions
- Focusing on academic vocabulary - those words that scholars see on assessments like NWEA and MStep
- Focusing on spending more time completing Zearn lessons - the computer program that is directly connected to the math curriculum, Eureka Math
- Focusing on spending more time completing MyPath lessons - the computer program that is directly connected to NWEA which provides practice on reading and language skills
- Focusing on using R.A.C.E to answer all questions - R.A.C.E stands for: Restate the question, Answer the Question, Cite your evidence, and Explain your answer.
All of these focuses are things that you can do with your scholar(s) at home. Please reach out to your child's teacher for more information.
Attendance
In addition to our academic focus, we will be focusing heavily on attendance of all scholars. In order for us to prepare scholars for their futures, they have to be in school everyday.
Please be sure that your scholar is in attendance Monday through Friday to be eligible for the weekly incentive. See details below. We have had 3 families win $50 gift gas gift card so far, you could be next!
We have awarded 5 families with $50 gift cards!!! Be sure to send your scholar to school everyday and you could be next
Enrichment and Soaring Scholars
Enrichment and Soaring Scholars will take place as normal this week.
Enrichment - Dance
There is a mandatory parent meeting on Monday, March 11, 2024 for all scholars that take part in the after school dance program. This is to discuss the end of the year dance recital.

Assistant Principal
Hello Trix Academy Families, Many of our scholars are improving in math. But, to really accelerate their learning, they could use more practice. Another great resource for families is Khan Academy. Khan Academy is a free site that helps create practice activities for scholars. The website is https://www.khanacademy.org/signup and you can select the parent account to start. It will walk you through creating activities for your scholar so they can practice and build their skills. Check it out and let us know how it is going. Thank you!

Hello Trix Families,
Respect
Everyday here at Trix Academy, we strive to show respect, model respect and teach all scholars the importance of being respectful. With that being said, we are experiencing a lot of disrespectful types of behaviors. Families, we need your support in teaching your child(ren) why they should be respectful and what it looks like.
For the month of March, that is our school-wide focus, RESPECT! The class that has the highest LiveSchool points with respect with receive a nacho/taco bar as a reward.
Examples of showing Respect;
- Being kind
- Using appropriate words when talking to others
- No being mean
- Helping
- Maintaining a low speaking voice
- Not talking about others or shaming others
- Keeping hands to yourself
