Meal Program
Starting in January, we are partnering with EveryMeal to provide an option for families to pick up a bag of food with shelf staples on Fridays at Como Park Elementary between 11-2 at the small parking lot entrance of Door 6. Families must fill out a survey to be eligible to pick up a bag of food. Bags will not be available other days of the week unless there is an appointment scheduled with an SPPS Online staff member. Please call Stephanie Abbas at 612-548-1841 with questions.

Protocol for Managing Classroom Interruptions During Online Instruction
SPPS Online offers a unique opportunity for students, parents, and the school to engage in their child's education. Google Meets focus on teaching and learning, maintaining consistency with traditional classrooms. Distraction-free learning environments are essential. Issues can be addressed in Google Meets, but not during live classroom sessions. Parents can arrange private discussions with teachers, but these must be done outside instructional time to maintain the online learning environment.
Please access and get familiar with this protocol. Your understanding and cooperation are highly appreciated. This protocol is available in three languages (English, Hmong, and Spanish).

3rd Grade
Ms. Moua will start on Monday, December 16th.
4th Grade
Dear 4th Grade Families,
4th graders are working on their new writing project where they invent a magical item to sell. All aspects of our writing process are being practiced such as peer review and final drafts! Students will have a hook, topic sentence, body paragraphs and conclusion while also making their sales pitch engaging and funny! Please ask your students to share these projects with you at home, and they will be presenting to the class next week on Wednesday and Thursday.
We are learning about tempo, harmony and other musical elements over these two weeks, and students will be doing some writing about music using academic vocabulary that we are learning.
In math, students are practicing close reading of word problems to identify and explain words and phrases that tell us what operations we are doing and how to interpret remainders. As always, practicing our math facts at home is the number one thing we can do right now to strengthen all our math strategies and processes.
Is your child reading independently and with you several times a week? I’ve seen some students putting in extra minutes on Project Read above and beyond what I assign as well as finishing multiple books in Learning AZ! I do assign multiple books to students based on skills we are practicing in class, and they can search books based on genre, skill and reading level as well. Let me know if there are any other resources I can provide to support your students’ reading at home.
Please contact me any time:

5th Grade
Hello 5th grade families!
Students have been working hard on adding and subtracting fractions with different denominators. Help students by continuing to practice their multiplication facts at home.
We will be reading the novel Aliens Ate my Homework next week, and ending the week with watching the movie. Students have chosen to celebrate winter break by building blanket/pillow forts on Friday, December 20th. Please help them set this up!
In social studies students have been studying the three branches of government, and for writing students have been writing a biography on a person. They have the option to create a paper lantern about their “loominary” person, please see if you’re able to gather:
Paper (4 pieces - could be different colors)
Scissors
Stapler or tape
Glue
Ruler
Pencil
By Wednesday, December 18th.
Please continue to reach out with questions and concerns!

Art
This week 1st graders created silly snowpeople, winter trees and gingerbread characters! They used lines, patterns and colors to create and talk about their works of art!
4th grade artists learned about the first photographs of snowflakes! They then created their own unique snowflake designs. To wrap up this rotation we learned about creating depth in our artwork while drawing our cups of hot cocoa! They created 3-dimensional looking cups using curved lines and including a grounding line in the midground. Next, they added fun patterns and colors to create a finished work!
