Math Keywords and Problem Solving Strategies
Thank you to Ms. T for having us in her classroom at Nellie Muir. Ms. Tlusty's students were working on adjusting numbers to make addition and subtraction easier, and these classroom anchor charts, problem solving strategies, and keywords proved handy!
Qualitative vs. Quantitative

The Ins and Outs of Elementary Science

Bridging Between Literacy Times
Shout out to Ms. Wilson and Ms. Hernandez-Ortiz for helping students bridge over concepts and key terms from their English/Science Ecosystems unit to Spanish, and for sharing this adorable and informative chart!
Anchor Questions Across Literacy Times
Students record what they have already learned in Spanish (green). Then, students and teachers together make connections between the two languages before engaging in some extended learning in English (blue). During the English integrated Science/Literacy time, students extend their learning of the science concepts with the "W" questions, as well as key vocabulary and syntax in English.
Taking it to Writing
Here students from Ms. Hernandez-Ortiz's class have applied the concepts they learned in their Spanish literacy time into their English integrated Science/Literacy time by taking it to writing in English!

Dual Language Advisory Board
The Dual Language Advisory Board had their first meeting of the year on Wednesday. The team is co-creating a dual language program evaluation process with consultants from Education Northwest. This yearlong evaluation will help inform ways to continue to strengthen and grow as a multilingual and multicultural district. To the right are some of the guiding questions driving the evaluation, and which helped us center our work on Wednesday as we began planning. Stay tuned for more information about the structure of the program evaluation process and how you can be involved.
