Wildcat Weekly 4/7-4/11

Hi Wildcats! 🐾
Hi Wildcats!
We hope you can join us this Friday, 4/11, for our Spring Multicultural and Art Night from 5:30-7pm. We have more than 15 countries that will be represented by country ambassadors outside along with cultural entertainment, and a food truck! Our Wildcats have also been busy creating works of art that will be on display in the MPR. We hope to see you there!
A big thank you to our parents who worked so hard to plan and organize Multicultural and Art Night, Sage Pierce, Bri Grajkowski, Christine Joy Sampankanpanich, Andrea Rodriguez-Chamberlin, and Amy Wegener.
We are looking forward to another wonderful week at Pomerado!
Mrs. Julie Goldberg
Proud Principal of Pomerado Elementary School
📢Traffic Circle Safety🚗
Cars must go all the way through the traffic circle and not turn left into the school to avoid it.
This can be very dangerous. We ask that everyone help keep our school safe by following the rules.
Thank you for your cooperation and partnership!
World Autism Day- April 2nd
National Autism Awareness Day was April 2nd and April is Autism Awareness Month. Pomerado Staff (some pictured above) wore blue as that color is most commonly associated with autism awareness. At Pomerado we celebrate all our unique learners today and everyday!
It's Book Fair Week!! 🚨We Need Volunteers!!🚨
We are still in urgent need of Book Fair volunteers to guide students with their selections and to staff the cash registers, especially during lunch shifts and Family Night. No experience needed! Please click here to view shifts and sign up: https://evite.me/tXb5HCxYrd
Our Literati Buy One, Get One FREE Spring Book Fair is finally here! All TK-5th grade students will visit the Book Fair this week with their class, and will also have the opportunity to shop at lunch recess on select days. On Friday, April 11, we hope you'll join us for Book Fair family shopping from 5:30-7:00pm during our Spring Multicultural and Art Night.
If your student is planning to buy books this week, we highly encourage purchasing a digital Book Fair gift card for them to shop with, rather than sending cash. We will have all gift card records available at the cash registers so you don't need to print or send anything with your child. Gift cards can be purchased here (you will be able to connect the gift card to Pomerado's Book Fair during checkout): https://literati.com/store/product/gift-card/
Our online Book Fair is also taking place now through April 11! You can grab some amazing online exclusives and titles that won't be available at our in-person fair, including the ever-popular Dog Man and Babysitters Club. All items at our in-person Book Fair and select items at our online Book Fair are buy one, get one FREE! All profits from online and in-person Book Fair purchases directly benefit our school library, allowing us to purchase new books for our collection.
Please click here to check out our online Literati Book Fair: https://literati.com/store/?school=pomerado-elementary-school-poway-ca
Feel free to share this link with friends and family who might also be interested in shopping our fair!
April is School Library Month!
"School Library Month" is the American Library Association's annual celebration of school libraries. It's a time we recognize the essential role that strong school libraries play in transforming learning. School libraries provide a welcoming space where students can explore new ideas, develop literacy skills, and foster a lifelong love of reading. We are so thankful for our own beautiful school library here at Pomerado!
Did you know that in PUSD, school libraries do not receive district funds to purchase new books? All of our book-buying dollars come from our bi-annual Book Fairs and occasionally, grants from the community. So while our wish list is ever growing, our new book purchases are often limited. If you would like to support our Pomerado school library this month, or anytime, please check out our Amazon wish list! We update the list quite frequently with titles we'd love to add to our collection to be enjoyed by our Wildcats and we appreciate donations! Please click here to access the list: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/2M4DN8QBFZPVZ?ref_=wl_share
We know weekly class library visits are something many of our Wildcats look forward to! Thank you for supporting our school library and your child's reading adventures!
Volunteer Information
With the end of year approaching, many of our grades will be attending Field Trips.
There are two types of volunteers:- Level 1 – Level I volunteers are allowed to work with students under the supervision of staff, e.g. classroom volunteers. Level I volunteers are not allowed to be left alone with students.
- Level 2 – For volunteers who will work in isolation with students, e.g., Safety Patrol Coordinator, Garden Club, Field Trip Chaperones. Level II volunteers will have significant unsupervised contact with students.
If you would like to be a field trip chaperone, you need to be cleared as a Level 2 volunteer. The first step is Level I below.
Steps to be a Level I Volunteer:
- Complete the following forms
- Level I Application (Megan’s Law)
- Volunteer Code of Conduct
- Volunteer Code of Confidentiality
- Proof of identification/driver’s license [proof of identification/driver’s license to be shown at school site]
- TB Clearance: Applicants will turn in completed forms plus proof of a TB clearance to the school site where they plan to volunteer. TB Testing requirements can be found in the section below titled “TB Testing”. TB tests must be kept current to continue volunteering.
