Principal Monthly Updates
New School Logo Update and Uniform Information
As shared during the 2023-2024 school year, our school's new logo uniform will be mandatory starting in the 2025-2026 school year. Risse Uniform Company is offering a sale on uniforms featuring the current (old) logo that can only be worn for the remainder of the 2024-2025 school year.
Risse Uniform Company currently has new logo uniforms available in some sizes, all sizes can be ordered as needed.
Effective Immediately:
Any item that is ordered will have the new logo.
Any item with the old logo can no longer be returned or exchanged.
All old logo items are on sale in-store only as a final sale
All polos - $10.
All oxfords - $10.
Sweater vests - $10.

We are overwhelmed by your generosity during our holiday food drive. Thanks to your support, we have received an amazing amount of canned goods and non-perishable food items to benefit families through the Laurel Advocacy Referral Services (LARS).
Although the original collection period was scheduled for December 4th–13th, your kindness has exceeded our expectations so we will be concluding our donation collection early. We now have more than enough to give.
Thank you for making this effort such a tremendous success.

Quarter one Report Cards released!
Report cards are available online for viewing. A printed copy will be sent home on November 26th.
Tutoring is here!
It is that time of year! Tutoring is in full effect. Math tutoring is held Monday and Tuesday and Reading Tutoring is held on Thursday and Friday from 3:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m. These programs are by invitation only. Participants received an invitation and had to accept the invitation.
Saturday Academy Revised Schedule
Saturday Academy will be in session on December 7th. The next session after that will be Saturday January 11, 2025.
Students who were invited and accepted the invitation prior to the deadline should report to the back of the school for drop off at 9:00 a.m. Pick up will begin promptly at 11:00 a.m. Please make sure to be on time for drop off and pick up.
*Clubs Have Started*

Clubs will be held IN PERSON after the 2:25 p.m.-2:55 p.m. school dismissal. Club times are from 3:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. on the days specified. Clubs students must be picked up at 4:00 p.m.

Nurse Updates
A Message from Nurse Ann
It is imperative that we are aware of any health issues. Please update the school nurse for any new or important medical information. Our immunization compliance is almost at 100% please continue to forward documentation to the nurse.
Please help yourself and others -- keep your scholars home when they are not well.
Immunizations
Immunizations must be up-to-date and received by the school nurse to prevent exclusion from school.
Medication forms are attached. Please hand carry newly prescribed medication in the pharmacy packaging. Any adult may deliver the medication to the nurse. (appointments must be made)

ELA: We are reviewing the use of letter-sound relationships to decode, including VC, CVC, CCVC, and CVCC words. Our sight words are; go, from, yellow, we will use them in a sentence and practice spelling them. Our letters this week are “Xx, and Yy” . We will identify items that begin with those letters.
Social Studies: We are continuing to learn about jobs in our communities.
Math: We are continuing learning about subtraction and taking apart numbers up to 10.
Science: We are continuing to talk about the weather and how it affects how we dress and prepare for the day.
Friendly reminder: If your scholar has a fever or is not feeling well, please keep them home until their symptoms are gone for at least 24 hours. We are trying to alleviate the spread of germs within our classrooms.

Fascinating First Grade News!
Hello Firstie families!
December has been very cold with a few sightings of snow! Please make sure your scholar has their name written in their heavy coat, (with their grade)for easy retrieval, if lost.
Please continue to look out for a few permission slips as first grade will prepare for our STEM exploration through gingerbread construction, as well as our Winter Day, the week of the 16th. We are also looking forward to our annual winter day (more details to come)!

Winter "STEM" Activities-December 18-20-permission slip and signup-genius will be sent out next week.

Third Grade
Terrific Third Grade News!
In Social Studies, students will begin Chapter 2: Lesson 3: Early Spanish Communities.
In Math, we are learning strategies to add and subtract using mental math to work our way up to 3-digit problems. Extra practice with place value up to the hundreds and regrouping will be helpful!
This week in Science, we are learning about natural weather hazards, and ways that people can stay safe during them.
Fourth Grade
Fourth Grade Weekly News!
Next week in Reading students will finish up unit 2 week 4 by completing the Progress Check and begin week 5 synthesizing information in an informational text. In Social Studies, students will begin studying the nation's economy. In Math, students will use arrays and various other strategies to find the factors of a given whole number. In Science, students will identify the basic components of a simple electric circuit.
Students should begin working on their STEM Fair project. Below you will find the link to the STEM Fair packet that has the timeline and requirements for the project. Please also not students are required to submit a research paper.

Arts On Stage Field Trip
"The Magic School Bus" field trip will take place on Thursday, December 12, 2024. Please make sure you have completed and returned your scholars permission slip asap. If you have not already paid for the trip and you are planning to attend, please be sure to submit payment by Monday morning, December 9, 2024. The theater needs an exact head count asap. Thank you for your timely response in this matter.

SUBJECT CONTENT
RELA
Scholars will now migrate to "Tracking Monsters"--an informational text that will help students explain relationships between ideas in the text and confirm or correct predictions in the text. The two reading skills have been studied in previous texts, but students are now navigating the reading skill independently. Please make sure scholars are studying daily by reading informational texts during personal reading time to sharpen comprehension and literacy. The vocabulary that will be introduced in the text is as follows: fragmented, transmitter, nocturnal, burrows, iconic.
Please study the added vocabulary in VOCABULARY.COM Unit 2 Week 4.

As the Tigers jump back into their routine, we will learning about the government within Chapter 6: A New Nation. Inside this chapter we will discover how the Articles of Confederation came about, how many branches of government there are, who does what and why we need them all, who created the Constitution, Bill of Rights and how they help us today. Looking forward to capturing this information and enjoying the knowledge that comes with it. Let's go Tigers!

This week in Science, students will be able to describe how Earth's systems interact with each other.

Creative Arts
Superior Specials News!
Kindergarteners are working on Lines and Shapes. We have reviewed safe scissor use and techniques.
Students will create their own artwork focused on lines and shapes and experiment with collage.
First graders are finishing a project called,
I Love My Hair!
Students will create a portrait with an abstract hair design that depicts a particular mood or feeling, using line, repetition, pattern, and color.
Second graders are creating imaginary creatures in
“Monster Mashup”
Students will present their never-before-seen creature hybrids by combining parts from five animals, to create one in its habitat. We will critique next week.
Third graders are making Patterned Landscapes. Students will create a landscape that contains patterns.
Fourth grade, Names Revealed Through Color:
Students are creating geometric name designs using color, shapes, lines, and text to express an aspect of their personality. They will submit Artist Statements next week along with a critique
Fifth graders are making “Monster Line Drawings” Students create illustrations from random markings to create a 3D image with form and texture. Artist Statements and reviews are due next week.
Music
Hello!!
K & 1st grade are continuing to learn about pitch and how to recognize high and low pitches. 2nd grade is continuing to work on singing and has been introduced to what a music staff is and a beginner way to read the notes on it. 3rd grade is continuing to learn about how to properly read notes on the treble staff. 4th & 5th grade are finishing up performing their music compositions, and have begun to review the music score they will learn to play!

Good week, this week in PE we are doing relay races to work on our fundamentals and teamwork.
LEGO
Hello! We are completing assessments on our last lessons and continuing to move through the curriculum and Lego lessons. We will be working on the following:
K-1: XL World: Landmarks
2: Amazing Amusement Park: The Fast Lane
3: Animals & Their Environment: Habitats
4-5: Science Connection: Finishing: Prepare for natural hazards.
STEM II
Greetings,
K-1: Completed their balloon characters and will be learning how to code Busy Bee robots to have them transport their balloons along the parade path.
2-3: Demonstrated their understanding of how to make the Sphero Indi’s move in the directions indicated. They will design their balloons next and attach it to the Sphero Indi’s to travel the parade route.
4: Completed their hiking backpack project and had their introduction to Balloons Over Broadway project. They will be designing and creating a parade float out of a shoebox with their group. The next step is deciding on a theme for the float and planning the design for the theme.
5: They have successfully agreed upon a theme for their floats and the items that they want to include on the float and the materials that they will need to create it. Next step is create! I can’t wait to see their floats begin to come to life!
Counselor's Corner!
Hey there, CMIT NES Families! Our K-2 students just wrapped up some awesome lessons on emotions and feelings with the school counselor and now it's time for 3rd through 5th grade to dive in! We're all about recognizing and expressing our BIG emotions in a healthy way. From practicing deep breathing to learning how to talk about what we feel, these sessions will help students navigate anything that comes their way. Get ready to explore how we can calm our minds, take deep breaths, and understand the power of expressing our emotions!
