School Health Advisory Council Vol. 2, Issue 3 May 2021
At the Committee of the Whole Meeting on Monday, March 22, the Scotland County Schools Board of Education approved Plan A as an in-person learning option for all students (PreK-13). Accordingly, all parents have until March 30th to choose from one of the following learning options beginning April 12th until the end of the school year:
- Plan A - Four days of in-person learning, four days per week ( Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday) with Wednesday serving as a remote learning day.
- Plan C - 100% online instruction for the remainder of the school year.
Parents who select Plan C must remain on Plan C for the remainder of this school year. Parents who select Plan A may participate in Plan A for the remainder of the school year OR switch one time and go to Plan C for the remainder of the school year.

With signed consent Rapid Testing is now available at Scotland High School for Symptomatic Students and Staff

SHAC Member Highlight: Kathie Cox
Kathie Cox is a Certified Health Educator at Scotland County Health Department.
Kathie reaches people of all demographics, she utilizes creative and diverse methods to deliver information to Scotland County residents.
Kathie has been a member of NC Society of Public Health Education since 2000 along with other professional associations. She has also earned and maintained a National Certification as a Health Education specialist since 1999.
One of her focus area’s is heat and heat related illnesses. Kathie is a Heat Prevention Specialist with Scotland County Health Department, and is working to educate county residents on HRI and to decrease the incidence of HRI. Her objective is to make information accessible and widely distributed, especially among high-risk groups such as student-athletes, non-native English speakers and seniors.

Free Sports Physicals will resume this year!
In partnership with Scotland Health Care Systems, Scotland High School will offer FREE sports physicals on Saturday May, 22, 2021 From 8:00am -10:00am (Last check-in 9:30am) in the New Gym for grades 7th-12th.

Final Thoughts: Another school year in the books. It was a difficult chapter but we could not have made it a success without teamwork!
