Congratulations Christopher Whitehurst, Principal, Ridgeview Elementary School
The Yakima School District is pleased to announce the selection of Mr. Christopher Whitehurst as the Principal of Ridgeview Elementary School, effective July 1, 2024, pending approval by the school board.
Mr. Whitehurst is a proud product of the Yakima Valley and an alumnus of Eisenhower High School, where he excelled as a three-sport athlete. His leadership skills were further developed during his six years of service with the United States Air Force as a tactical aircraft technician. Upon returning to the Yakima Valley, Mr. Whitehurst pursued a Bachelor's degree in Education with a concentration in mid-level humanities from Heritage University, followed by a Master's in Educational Leadership from Western Governors University.
With over nine years of educational experience across both elementary and middle school levels, Mr. Whitehurst has also made significant contributions to youth development through coaching roles at the YMCA, and at middle and high school levels. He has served as the Assistant Principal at Ridgeview Elementary for the past three years, demonstrating a steadfast commitment to our students and community.
Mr. Whitehurst is supported by his wife, Kathlyn, a Speech-Language Pathologist at McClure Elementary, and their three children: Hailey, who is currently attending the University of Montana; Alexander, a high school student; and Nico, born just this March. The Whitehurst family enjoys sports, camping, traveling, and experiencing new cultures, including visits to Kathlyn’s family in the Philippines.
As he transitions into his new role, Mr. Whitehurst is dedicated to building relationships and fostering a sense of community, principles he believes are essential not just in education but across all facets of community life. He looks forward to continuing his dedicated service and building on the foundation of success at Ridgeview Elementary.
