WMMS Tiger Times
September 2024
Dear WMMS Families
The school year is off to a great start! Students have been learning our school wide expectations during advisory and are doing well getting back into a routine. Last year our sixth graders participated in a "House System" earning points toward rewards for following expectations, academics, hard work, being helpful, and demonstrating the house traits. This year we have expanded to all grade levels and staff members! Please see more information below on our house system at WMMS.
Fall sports start soon, and I hope to see large crowds at our events cheering on our Tigers! Student Council applications were due last week and we're excited to see who will be representing our student body. As always, if you have any questions please let me know!

WMMS Principal
WMMS House System
This year we are excited about using a house system school-wide. Each student belongs to one of five houses. Our WMMS houses are Tenacity, Integrity, Generosity, Equity, and Reliability. Each house is a community of 6th, 7th, and 8th graders and staff members working together to earn house points. Students earn house points by being respectful and responsible, showing exemplary character, and academic achievement. Each quarter the house with the most points will earn rewards and the esteemed house cup. Ask your child which house they are in!
A Note from Mrs. Stephens in the Library
We are off to a great start in the library this year! So far students have already checked out 545 books! It is time for our September Monthly Reading Challenge. Each student who turns in a completed challenge sheet will receive five house points and a prize from Mrs. Stephens. The September Scholastic Book Order will be due Friday, 9/20. Visit https://orders.scholastic.com/NV8CG to see what’s available and place your order.
Does your student have a special day coming up? Consider donating a book to the library in their honor. Visit our Amazon Wish List to see the books we would love to add to the library. If you make a purchase, please fill out the gift message, and I will make sure to put a note in the front of the book in honor of your child.
Also, if you happen to have any of these books in good condition and gathering dust on a shelf, we would love to get them in our students’ hands! For more information about all things library, check out the WMMS Library Media Center Website.

WMMS Cheerleading
William Matthew Middle School Cheerleading has been working very hard the last few weeks. They are excited to be cheering at the first home football game on September 10th. The coaches want to give a big shout-out to the 8th-grade cheerleaders for stepping up and being great leaders for our 7th-graders. We appreciate you working hard and being great leaders.
