The Rebel Crier
February 28, 2025
Principal's Message
As we close the week, I want to highlight work of our students committed to strengthening our school community. Our Rebels for CommUNITY student group met multiple times this week. It has been inspiring to see the energy and commitment these students have towards engaging their fellow students in activities to grow our school. Many other students who have not been directly involved with this group have also stepped up and engaged with their teachers and the administration to share ideas about making positive changes. This is inspiring and appreciated.
Our staff is also committed to ensuring our school has the optimal conditions for learning, and we are implementing tools to support that. Next week, we will expand the use of our electronic Pass system. We have been using this system since last year for certain types of appointments, and beginning next week will use it for all passes out of class. Our goal is to more effectively supervise movement in the building, and communicate high expectations to our students.
These changes are focused on creating the best conditions for learning and respectful behavior in the building, which our staff takes very seriously. Some students have already asked if it will be possible to have input as we adapt to our new procedures, and the answer is YES! Just as with other things in life, sometimes we need a 'reset' in order to move forward. Our hope is that this 'reset' will build back trust between teachers and students, and make NFHS a stronger school than ever.
In this newsletter every week we try to highlight some of the many positive things that happen in the daily life of our school, and the response of our students and staff in the face of adversity should give us all hope for brighter days ahead.

ECE Day at WCSU
Students from AP/ECE Spanish Language and Culture attended ECE day on Friday, February 21 at Western Connecticut State University. Students received their official WCSU College IDs, listened and participated in demonstration lectures for Mathematics/Robotics, Nursing and Communication, toured the campus, were treated to lunch at the WCSU cafeteria and then joined Señor GarcĂa on a stroll to the Mexican Bakery located on White Street in Danbury. Overall, students enjoyed the experience and received invaluable information about the college admissions process and college life from WCSU professors, professional staff and current students. Pictured are Nicole Zambrano, Fernando Flores, Sarah Cilia, Jacob Pardalis, Katie McMorrow, Amanda Carlacci, Anabella Ebanks and Trinity Smith enjoying delicious Mexican pastries on their way back to NFHS.
NFHS offers ECE math and world language courses every year to students who want to get the college experience while still in High School.

Did You Miss Junior College Planning Night?
On February 27th, the New Fairfield High School Counseling Department partnered with Mr. Nilvio Perez, Director of Admissions at Southern Connecticut State University, to provide a comprehensive update to students and their families on the college planning process for junior year and beyond.
The NFHS School Counseling Team shared key information that has been delivered to current juniors through classroom lessons, grade-level meetings, course planning sessions, and one-on-one junior planning meetings. They also reviewed upcoming programming dates and highlighted opportunities for additional support in the post-high school planning process.
Mr. Nilvio Perez delivered an engaging presentation, guiding parents through all aspects of the college exploration, application, and admission process from the perspective of an experienced admissions counselor, parent, and knowledgeable professional.
We are grateful to Mr. Perez for donating his time and expertise to support our school community in collaboration with the NFHS School Counseling Team and to the parents and students who joined us for this engaging evening.
If you could not attend or would like additional information, please see the attached presentation, which reflects the combined efforts of Mr. Perez and the NFHS School Counseling Team, or contact a member of the NFHS School Counseling Team.
