Mr. Mauck's Musings
A reminder that Fall Break will be the week of October14-18th and school will not be in session. Congratulations to the boys tennis team for bringing home their 19th sectional title on Thursday. They will host the regional on Tuesday and Wednesday and Semi-state is on Saturday. The girls soccer team beat nationally ranked Castle High School 3-0 on Wednesday. That was a great tune-up for sectional play which begins on Tuesday evening. The boys soccer sectional begins on Wednesday. Unified Football travels to Bedford for sectional this weekend. The football team is looking to keep momentum going at Castle tonight. The Marching Wildcats host the ISSMA Open Invitational at Alumni Stadium with their performance at 9:15 pm. Congratulations to our Student and Staff of the Week, Osvaldo Soto and Mrs. Samantha Venderley. Mrs. Venderley's future educators are hosting Kid's Night Out tonight at JHS. Information about this monthly event is listed in the club section. Poetry Out Loud will have a call out meeting on October 10th.
Jasper High School has achieved all criteria to be listed on the 2024 AP School Honor
Roll as a Silver school! To qualify for the 2024 AP School Honor Roll, schools must meet
or exceed the criteria for a given recognition level for three metrics, including College Culture, College Credit and College Optimization. On October 9th JHS will be giving the PSAT and SAT to many of our students. Here is a list of the activities for that day: Seniors- SAT Testing or Community Service or College Visit or Job Shadow. Juniors- SAT Testing or PSAT Testing or Community Service or College Visit or Job Shadow Sophomores- All sophomores will be taking the PSAT (will be dismissed after PSAT with parent permission) Freshmen- Tour of Opportunity. Please make sure your student has completed a permission form if they will be participating in community service, job shadowing or a college visit.
JHS will have student picture retakes on October 8th. Information was emailed directly to parents and students. Some of our parents with younger students will have participated in parent teacher conferences. JHS does not have parent teacher conferences, instead we have our Freshmen Orientation Nights in February. Please check PowerSchool for updates on your student's grades and please email their teachers if you have any concerns.
Seniors were sent an email this week requesting them to respond with their legal first, middle, and last names for their diplomas. Please check with your senior that they did this and spelled the names correctly. Over the years, many students did not know how to spell their middle names since they aren't used often. Any error in the spelling of the name/s will be charged to you. This file is directly uploaded to Josten's. If you have any questions, please contact Deb Schum at JHS.
JHS Student Council led our fall pep-session on Thursday. There was a parade of activities, cheer competitions, tug-a-war, a water tasting contest, name that tune, and the roller coaster cheer competition. A huge thank you to Julie Ferguson, Scott Yarbrough, Samantha Venderley and the StuCo Spirit committee members for a great pep-session. I have several pictures uploaded.
Have a great weekend and Go Cats!

Jasper High School has achieved all criteria to be listed on the 2024 AP School Honor
Roll as a Silver school! To qualify for the 2024 AP School Honor Roll, schools must meet
or exceed the criteria for a given recognition level for three metrics, including College
Culture, College Credit and College Optimization.
College Culture is the percentage of students in the graduating class who took an AP
exam at any point in high school, regardless of score. To avoid pressure on students to
take large numbers of APs, only 1 AP exam per student contributes to this indicator. JHS
ranked in the Silver Criteria for College Culture.
College Credit is the percent of students in the graduating class who scored 3+ on an AP
exam at any point in high school. To avoid pressure on students to take large numbers of
APs, only 1 AP exam score of 3 or higher, per student, contributes to this indicator. JHS
ranked in the Silver Criteria for College Credit.
College Optimization is the percent of students in the graduating class who took 5 or
more AP exams in high school, where at least 1 exam was taken in 9 th or 10 th grade.
Because research finds that 6 or more APs do not improve college graduation rates
beyond the optimal total of 5 such courses in high school, no exams beyond 5 per
student contribute to this indicator. The Honor Roll also recognizes schools that
encourage students earlier on their AP journeys so as not to overload them with AP
courses their junior and senior years. JHS ranked in the Platinum Criteria for College
Optimization.
