A Note to Families
Crestdale Families,
We are so excited to be back with your children! We will be reviewing procedures and expectations with everyone, and then we will get right back into learning and growing! We appreciate continued support from families to remind students to exhibit SHARP behaviors at school.
Safety
Honesty
Accountability
Respect
Perseverance
For parents this month, we have an exciting opportunity for you to be a part of a virtual workshop with one of our TBRI trainers, Jessie Hyde! Jessie has been working with the Central Office, principals, teachers, and staff as we learn all about TBRI and how it can help us relate better with our students. Now she is making herself available to work with you! For more information, please see the flyer later on in this newsletter.
Our teachers and staff are dedicated to continue making Crestdale a safe and welcoming environment for all students and families. It is my pleasure to serve our Crestdale community. Please reach out to me anytime if you have questions.

Important Reminders
Arrival and Dismissal:
At arrival, our staff often assists in helping your students out of your vehicles and greeting them in the drop off line by the front door. However, there are times staff is not available to provide this service. Additionally, with the inclement weather (e.g. frigid temperatures), while our staff is still at the front doors to greet your students, there will likely be many times they will not be outside for extended periods of time to assist your students as they exit your vehicles. In preparation for those times when staff members are not outside, we would ask that you have your students prepared to have their belongings gathered so that they can exit your vehicle in a timely yet safe manner.
We would request that parents do not stop your vehicles in the crosswalk area so that anyone crossing can do so in this designated area.
The drop off line by the front door is the preferred location for your students to be dropped off upon arrival at school. If you would choose to drop your students off in the bus drop off/pick up line (or if they walk to school from that direction), we would prefer you walk with your students across the crosswalk leading to the front door area for safety reasons. If they are unaccompanied by an adult, please reinforce to them the importance of walking to the striped crosswalk area, looking both ways for traffic, and crossing only when it is safe.
At dismissal we must allow the buses to leave first, so please wait in the car line until all buses have left. Students need to be loaded into vehicles on the passenger side (side closest to the sidewalk) to ensure student/staff safety. We also ask that you remain in your vehicle; if you need to help buckle your child, please move forward and pull over out of the car rider line to do so. If picking up students for appointments close to dismissal, please do so by 2:15, otherwise you will need to wait until buses are dismissed.
The safety of your students is of the utmost importance to us.
Transportation Changes:
If you are going to change how your student is going home, please contact the office 765-973-3415. This needs to be done before 2:00 (1:00 on Tuesdays). We cannot get students off the bus once they are on the bus. We would like to ensure all of our students arrive to their destination safely.
Bus Safety:
The safety of our students is of upmost importance including while riding the bus to and from school and during field trips. We will be addressing bus safety and bus expectations with all students and will work with bus drivers and to ensure expectations are being met. We also encourage families to talk with your child about the importance of staying seated while riding the bus, following adult instructions, keeping hands to ourselves, and using kind words. We want to encourage a safe and positive start and end of the day for all students and appreciate your support in our efforts.
Water Bottles must have a lid and contain WATER
We have had several students bringing in non-approved beverages to school. Please keep in mind that outside drinks from restaurants/gas stations are not to be brought to school. Students are not allowed to have pop/sodas at school. Monsters, PRIME, or other energy drinks are not permitted. Students may bring water bottles, but the bottle must contain WATER, not juice or other beverages. No bottles or cups of liquids are allowed in the gym. If a student brings another beverage, it will be thrown away.
Employment:
Richmond Community Schools are continuing to look for good candidates for unfilled positions. This includes bus drivers, teachers, and assistants. If you are interested you can apply at werrichmond.com.

***New State Attendance Policy***
A new attendance law has been passed by Indiana lawmakers. Our school system is required, BY LAW, to follow the policy. Please make sure your child is at school every day unless they are sick.
December Attendance Winners
Attendance is extremely important and we encourage all students to be at school every day. We understand there are illness and appreciate you keeping students home when they are sick, but every minute they are here at Crestdale matters. Our attendance goal is 95%. All students who averaged 95% or better on attendance for the month of January will be entered into this month's drawing. We will draw 10 names at the end of each month to win a family fun pack.

The next meeting is on Tuesday, January 14th.
