A Note from Dr. Peterson
Wow! Can you believe that we are entering the final week of the 2023-2024 school year?! It has been an incredible school year. I wanted to personally thank each and every one of you for your continued partnership with our school. With a strong parent/school partnership, we are able to have significant impacts on our students.
If you volunteered for our school over the course of the school year in any capacity, thank you. We know our families are busy. We know giving away the 'free' time you have is a time commitment. Without you, our school would not be in the same place it is in today. Your volunteering allowed us to have events that raised funds for our school, teachers, and students. It also created experiences for our students and families to engage in to build community.
As we enter this last week of school, here are a few specific reminders:
- Please stop by and check out our Lost & Found! We still have many items remaining and all items will be donated after the school year.
- Fly Up Day will take place on Thursday, May 23rd. Please see communication sent out on Monday, May 13th.
- The last day of school is on Friday, May 24th and will be a half day. Dismissal is at 11:45am.
This will be our last Pulse newsletter for the '23-'24 school year.
We will be in the office through mid - June and then return in the beginning of July.
Should you need direct assistance, please reach out to me (peterson.hannah@wgmail.org) or Central Office at 314.961.1233
Thank you again for your continued partnership.
Have a great summer!
Hannah Peterson, Ed.D

Welcome Laura Bierman!
Please join me in welcoming Laura Bierman to our Avery Family! Laura will be teaching Kindergarten for the upcoming school year. Included below is a brief bio from Laura:
Hi Avery Families! My name is Miss Laura Bierman and I am SO excited to meet you all very soon! I began my teaching career in Kindergarten, moved up to Third Grade for 3 years, and am so excited to be heading back to Kindergarten!! In my free time, I love cheering on the Mizzou Tigers (Go Tigers!) and traveling. I graduated from Mizzou in 2020 with a degree in Elementary Education, Early Childhood Certification, and minor in Psychology. I also earned my Masters Degree in Specialized Reading/Literacy Specialist K-12 and a certificate in Dyslexia from Lindenwood University in 2022. I can't wait to meet you and spend the next year learning and growing together!
Repeated Information Below
Legislative Updates
District families who would be interested in learning more about legislation being proposed that would impact public education, including our district, we’re providing you with two opportunities to do so.
First, we are hosting three in-person meetings on the following Fridays from 8-9 a.m. at our district service center (3232 S. Brentwood Blvd): March 8, April 5, and May 10. Participants will learn about bills that have been proposed and/or are working their way through the legislative process. If you plan to attend, please make sure to bring a drivers license or MO ID so that you can be checked in through our visitor management system.
Next, we’re going to be sending out a regular email which will allow you to get updates on education-related bills being presented and discussed in Jefferson City. In order to not overwhelm our readers, it’s our intent for this communication to be no more than 1-2 pages in length. For this reason, we will limit the number of bills included in the weekly update.
In addition to the weekly communication, we will also provide readers with special legislative “alerts” so that one can be informed when significant action has been taken with a bill. In order to receive these updates, you must sign up here. Only those who join will receive the weekly updates and alerts.
