Keeping Our School Healthy
This week, we have seen an uptick in students who may have a stomach bug. We encourage you to keep your child home if they are not feeling well. If your child has had a fever, diarrhea, or vomiting within the last 24 hours, please keep them home. Even if you have received an attendance letter reminder, and you're worried about days missed, it is more important to keep your child and other child healthy. We do understand that it is sometimes difficult to determine when your child is sick enough to stay home, but we appreciate your help in keeping our school community.
Transportation Notice
Ensuring the safety of your children is a top priority at our school. Please remember that for students in Pre-K and Kindergarten as well as any student who has PM supervision, a guardian or approved adult must be present at the designated bus stop to pick up their child. Please avoid waiting on porches or further up the road. This ensures a smooth transition from the bus to your care. If you need to update your list of approved adults for PM supervision, you can call the Stony Point front office at (434) 973-6405. We appreciate your partnership in promoting the safety and well-being of our students!
Parent Portal Open
You are now able to see your child's report card for third quarter on the Parent Portal. If you need help accessing Parent Portal, please contact the Stony Point front office at (434) 973-6405 or stonypointofficestaff@k12albemarle.org.
Dragon Dinner is NEXT WEEK!
We are excited to host our first annual Dragon Dinner on Wednesday February 21 from 6:00-7:30 PM! The purpose of this event is to come together as a Stony Point family and celebrate the incredible community that defines our school. In addition to strengthening old friendships, we hope this event will help you foster new connections.
This event will start with a pot-luck style dinner, where you are encouraged to bring a dish to share with others. We do not want this to be an added source of stress for your family. Items like casseroles, veggie trays, chicken nugget trays, or store-bought items are welcome! We will have labels for you to indicate which major allergens your food does not contain.
We’ve planned a game your whole family will enjoy during dinner- and the lucky winner will get to be “Principal for the Day!”
After dinner, there will be designated rooms around the school for families to play games like 24, Bananagrams, Pictionary, Scrabble, and other board games.
To sign up, click HERE or check your child’s Friday folder if you prefer a paper sign up sheet
Stony Point Student-Run Announcements
Did you know that our fifth grade dragons take ownership for our schoolwide morning announcements each day? Each fifth grade student has the opportunity to serve as the anchor on a rotating basis. Additionally, rotating student tech teams operate the sound board, run the tricaster to stream the video, control the teleprompter script, and create and maintain ongoing weekly segments which include:
- Monday: Book recommendation
- Tuesday: Time Travel Tuesday (highlighting a person or event from the past)
- Wednesday: Pass the Dragon (a student chooses a peer who has demonstrated kindness and outstanding citizenship)
- Fridays: Meteorology report
A huge thank you to Ms. McGill and Ms. Ferber for training the students and facilitating this special opportunity for leadership within our school!
We Notice
Albemarle County's annual We Notice recognition program is still accepting nominations through Tuesday, February 20! We Notice provides an opportunity for students, employees, parents/guardians, and community members to recognize and celebrate the work of any ACPS employee, such as teachers, teaching assistants, office staff, Building Services team members, cafeteria workers, school nurses, and bus drivers.

Open Feedback Form
Your ongoing input is invaluable in our sustained efforts to create the best possible experience for our Stony Point Dragons. We invite you to share your thoughts, ideas, and questions to ensure we continue to meet the needs of our school community. The feedback form will be viewed by the Stony Point Principal and Assistant Principal in order for them to understand what students are enjoying, address any concerns, and implement improvements. Thank you for partnering with us to promote a safe, nurturing, and enriching environment for all students.

On-Track Albemarle Family Resources
Student success is the goal for students, families, and Albemarle County Public Schools. Click HERE to view the guide created by ACPS is to help you understand how your student is doing in their grade. It shows the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOLs) students should know by the end of the year, according to the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE). There are also tools for you to use at home to help your students.
ACPS Technology Survey
ACPS has put together a Technology Survey that helps us determine use, support, funding, and opinions around our use of technology. Please help us by completing this survey (it should take 15-20 minutes). We appreciate you answering honestly. Thank you for your input!
Student-Created SPCA Drive
One of our students has organized a donation drive for the SPCA. Please consider dropping off supplies to the bin in the front lobby at the school through the end of February to support her philanthropic efforts!
