HMS News
Greetings from HMS!
As we shared yesterday, we have some great new after school activities available to students starting up next week.
Please encourage your middle-schooler to try something new as we enter the second half of the school year!
More information can be found below and in our Daily Notices.
Before winter break, Ms. Corcoran, Mrs. Zorella and our CLC students wrote to Christina Sontornvat, author of our most recent One Book, One School selection, A Wish in the Dark as a part of their study of the novel, and much to our delight . . . SHE WROTE BACK! The students were thrilled to hear back from her, and really appreciated the autographed stickers!
Intramural Volleyball
Students are invited to join Ms. Dorney for intramural volleyball on Mondays for the next several weeks. No experience necessary!
Learn the basics and have fun with your friends.
Students interested must sign up in advance (outside the fitness room) and should report to the gym after dismissal. Limit of 20 students per week.
Thursday Board Game Throwdown!
Are you looking for something different to do after school?
Why not join us for some “fun and games” after school on Thursday, January 30 for the first meeting of our new Board Game Group?
Students are invited to join us in the cafeteria afterschool to hang out with friends and have some “low-tech” fun, while enjoying a little friendly competition.
No phones. No Chromebooks. No internet, Just fun with friends!
We plan to meet on the last Thursday of the month, so if you’re unable to make it this time, watch for more information on our next meeting.
There is no need to sign up in advance. Just meet us in the cafeteria after school.
Students should feel free to bring their own games if they have a favorite.
To help get this group off the ground, we are also looking for donations of any used board games you might have at home. Games should be in “good” to “like new” condition, have all the pieces needed for game play, and most importantly, the directions! Donations can be sent to Mr. Smith in the main office.
Members of the HMS Adventure Club spent Thursday afternoon testing their mental and physical agility at Level99. Students enjoyed conquering swinging axes and challenge rooms. Keep an eye out for our next trip to Nova Trampoline Park!
Matilda Rehearsal Update
For the next few weeks, rehearsals will be for Lead Characters, which includes the Big and Little Kids ensembles.
Students in the Grade 7 & 8 Chorus of the show and meetings for the Crew members will begin in early February.
Students in Grade 6 may sign up to be in the Featured Ensemble of the song "The Hammer" up until Feb 1st! Rehearsals for Grade 6 students begin after February break.
See our Google Classroom (5scdu7x) for more info! Parents and Guardians can also look for a weekly Friday email containing the rehearsal schedule for the following week, while students can refer to the rehearsal schedule (callboard) on the GC, as well as print copies outside the Auditorium.
Please email Mrs. Fish with any questions! mfish@hinghamschools.org
