A Message from the Principal
Dear Journey Community,
It’s almost time for “MAP Madness!” In just one week from now, our 3-5th graders will start taking the Missouri MAP assessments. The goal of the state-mandated MAP is to evaluate students’ progress towards the Missouri Learning Standards for each grade level.
We know that almost two weeks of testing can be daunting, so we have put plans in place to make testing as FUN as possible for our Journey Jaguars! Students can look forward to a MAP parade and assembly, morning cheers, daily treats from the “MAP Fairy,” hilarious spirit days, and more!
A few notes about the last month of school:
- The end of the year is always incredibly busy. Please make sure that you have marked your calendars with any upcoming field trips, our PTA trivia night, musical performances, field day, etc. so that your child does not miss anything important! Third, fourth, and fifth grade families, please note that Missouri state MAP testing will take place during the mornings of the first three weeks of May. (Students will not test all day every day, but it is important that they are on time and in attendance during the testing window.) We will send you detailed information in the coming weeks, but please try to avoid appointments, late arrivals, and early vacations during the testing window. We have lots of fun things planned for grades 3-5 to make testing a positive experience and they will not want to miss out!
- Journey Elementary has a food pantry for students who might need food at home. If you'd ever like to send in non-perishable donations to keep our shelves stocked, we would greatly appreciate it! Just mark the donations "food pantry" so that staff knows where to put the items.
Calendar Changes
The Board approved the 2022-23 academic calendar revisions, as presented. With these revisions, the last day of school for all K-11 students has been moved to May 25 this year. The last day for seniors will be May 24. View the academic calendars here.
GIVESTLDAY
We’re counting down to #GiveSTLDay this May 10! We hope you consider giving to our Care to Learn Wentzville chapter. Read more.

JES Cardinals Game!
JES is going back to the Cardinals Game! Ticket sales will be starting in mid April this year, giving us a few more weeks to sell. Tickets will be $22/ticket. All 4th and 5th grade students/ and 3rd grade club members only are invited to come sing Take Me Out To the Ballgame with us on the field during the 7th Inning stretch. The game this year is on Friday September 15 @ 7:15 pm vs. the Philadelphia Phillies. Separately, there will be a JES Cardinals T-Shirt sold if you are interested. The online store will be opening in mid-April as well, so be on the lookout for more information on T-Shirts and JES Night at Busch Stadium!
Field Day!
Journey Families,
Field Day is soon approaching and will take place on Monday, May 22, with our rain-out date being Tuesday, May 23. Volunteers are crucial in making our 2023 Field Day a success! We are lucky to have you all and have received responses in regard to volunteering. Please do not worry that we have not reached back out yet; the form to sign up to be a Field Day Parent Volunteer closed on Wednesday, April 26, and we will soon be communicating with the volunteers to assign stations and answer any questions.
Thank you for your support! Please do not hesitate to reach out!

JES Talent Show
We are having our first ever JES Talent Show this year! It will be held on May 19, times to be determined still (but during school hours). We will be hosting a 3-5 grade talent show and a K-2 grade talent show throughout the day. Parents are welcome to come see their children perform if they are one of the lucky few who get a "golden ticket."
Donut You Want to Turn In Your Books?
It’s the end of the year and so it’s time to begin to clear out your child’s library account. As an extra incentive to do so we are hosting our second annual “Donut You Want to Turn In Your Books?” competition. Students will compete with the members of their grade to see which grade can turn in all missing material and pay off all fines the fastest. The grade that does so will receive a donut party! Let’s see if 3rd grade can keep its title or if another grade is ready to steal it away. The contest will end on May 19. So look under those beds and in every nook and cranny to find your student’s missing materials.
Summer Checkout
We are excited to announce that we will be allowing summer check out once again at Journey. Students that sign up will be allowed to check out ten books the week of May 15-19. They then can exchange them during the summer during our summer check out mornings (construction and janitorial projects allowing) or keep them until our Meet the Teacher night. There will be more information sent out about the specifics of summer check out dates as we get closer to summer. Please fill out this form if you are interested in having your student join the program.
Summer Reading Program
Summer is the perfect time to get your students reading as it helps curb not only the “summer slide,” but also keeps them engaged in productive fun! To get them extra motivated to read this summer, students will be able to participate in one or both of the summer reading programs offered at Journey!
Every year at Journey, students are given the opportunity to complete a Summer Reading BINGO. These BINGO sheets (K-2 sheet, 3-5 sheet) have students participating in reading, STEM activities, acts of service, and outdoor fun! If a student completes five activities in a row, they will receive a prize from the prize chest and ten house points. If they complete ten activities they will earn a prize bundle, twenty house points, and an entry to our grand prize drawing. Complete all twenty five activities and students will receive a free book, sixty house points and six entries to our grand prize drawing! Bonus entries to our drawing are given for every picture of you completing a BINGO item that you tag @MrsBlecherWSD on Twitter or send to Mrs. Bleacher via her email: christineblecher@wsdr4.org.
If you would like to know how to access any of the services mentioned in the BINGO check out this sheet for more information. Students can begin on their board on Friday May 26 and will need to be turned in at Meet the Teacher night or by the end of the second week of school.
We have an incredible public library and they too are also offering a summer reading program. Students that participate will receive prizes from the public library for completing tasks on their boards. Check out their website for more information!
Any student that completes the public library summer reading program will also be entered in a drawing to win a bonus prize of $20 to our first book fair of the year.
We miss our students when they aren't here!
Did you know that students who miss two days of school per month end up missing an entire school year of learning by the time they graduate from high school? Every minute matters. Every day counts. Partner with us in your child's educational success by supporting strong attendance! Learn more.
MATH at Home
Dear Journey Families,
We have a great way for you to support your child's progress in mathematics at home! By using this link, you will be able to see how to access My Path Math from your personal devices as well as "Fridge Tips" that help you prepare, support, and celebrate your child's progress in the program. When students use My Path, they receive lessons that directly correlate with their iReady test results and are able to work on skills that they need to be successful. Journey students are already familiar with the program as they use it at school each week- additional practice at home would be even more beneficial!
Thank you,
Emily Dittmer
BIRTHDAY TREATS
**Birthday parties are not allowed at school, but we will recognize and celebrate students on their special day. When your child has a birthday, we will announce their birthday during morning announcements, as well as provide a special prize. If your child chooses to bring in birthday treats, the treat will either be distributed during lunch time or during the last ten minutes of the school day before dismissal. In an effort to provide a safe, healthy, and supportive environment for all, we cannot celebrate birthdays with homemade treats. Instead, you will be able to order non-food choices from our café to share with classmates. With classroom teacher approval, parent/guardians will be able to send in store bought treats or non-food items. Please send in only enough to share with the main classroom. We look forward to helping each child feel special for these celebrations!
