For this week’s spotlight, we are thrilled to recognize and celebrate our talented student artists who participated in the DCSD Art Show. PCK was proudly represented by 30 students across multiple grade levels, each of whom submitted artwork to the competition.
We are especially excited to share that PCK Kindergartener Elodie Orgill received first place for her artwork. Elodie’s piece stood out among many entries from across the district, and we are incredibly proud of her creativity, dedication, and artistic achievement.
Please join us in congratulating Elodie on this outstanding accomplishment, as well as all of our student participants for their hard work and artistic expression in this year’s Art Show!
Our Athletic Department will be hosting its final tournament of the year with a Cornhole Tournament on Thursday, May 22 at 5:00 p.m. This event will feature three different brackets: Grades K–2, Grades 3–5, and Grades 6–8.
Prizes will be awarded to the top two teams in each bracket: first-place winners will receive a $50 Santortas gift certificate, and second-place finishers will receive a $25 Santortas gift certificate.
Teams will compete in a round-robin style format. What makes this tournament special is that we’re encouraging family participation—parents or guardians are welcome to compete alongside their child as a team. Please refer to the team and player registration forms below for more information on this tournament.
Our second graders recently participated in an Immigration Simulation as part of the Core Knowledge Curriculum. Through this hands-on experience, students learned about the process of immigrating to the United States, helping them to better understand the journeys and challenges faced by those who came to this country seeking new opportunities.
Throughout the unit, students explored the vital role immigration has played in shaping the history of the United States. This unit focuses particularly on the great wave of immigration between 1880 and 1920, examining the reasons people left their home countries and how they chose where to settle in the U.S.
In addition, students were introduced to foundational concepts of American citizenship, including key ideas from the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. This learning experience has helped deepen their understanding of the values and principles that unite us as a nation.
Although CMAS testing prevented us from celebrating on April 22, students across several grades enjoyed a week of engaging Earth Day activities in their science classes.
Kindergarten, first, fourth, and sixth grade students had the unique opportunity to learn from local Colorado scientists, who shared real-world examples of how science impacts our everyday lives.
Master Gardeners visited to help students understand how energy and fuels are derived from natural resources and the environmental effects of those processes. Water Ambassadors provided hands-on demonstrations about global climates, sparking curiosity and awareness in our young learners.
In addition, sixth grade students toured the Reuter Hess Water Purification Facility, gaining insight into water treatment and conservation, while third grade students explored the Denver Museum of Nature and Science to deepen their understanding of Earth and environmental sciences.
Each week, any items that are clearly labeled with a student’s name are returned to their classroom. However, there are many unlabeled items still remaining at the Lost and Found station.
We kindly ask that you remind your child to check the Lost and Found for any belongings they may have misplaced during the school year. Please note that any unclaimed items will be donated once we leave for Summer Break.
We’re excited to share that next week, May 12–18, is PCK's Library Spirit Week at Books Are Awesome! This special event is a great opportunity to celebrate the joy of reading while supporting our library.
When families shop at Books Are Awesome! during the week and mention Library Spirit Week, 10% of their purchase will be donated back to our library. It’s a perfect time to stock up on new books for the summer and help our library continue to grow.
With summer right around the corner, we’d like to remind families that any student medications brought to the health room during the school year must be picked up prior to Field Day, on May 29. Medications cannot be stored over the summer. Thank you for your attention to this matter!

The deadline for our End-of-Year Survey for the 2024–25 school year is quickly approaching on Tuesday, May 13 at 4:00 p.m.
Each year, this survey helps us reflect on what’s working well and identify areas where we can grow as a school community. Your feedback is especially valuable as we work to improve fundraising efforts and strengthen communication between families and school organizations.
We’ll be reviewing the results at our meeting on May 14, and we’re excited to use your input to help guide our next steps.
This week, we are excited to shine our Volunteer Spotlight on everyone in our PCK community who helped make Teacher Appreciation Week so special.
Whether you dropped off a coffee, sent in a thoughtful card, organized something behind the scenes, or simply took a moment to say "thank you" to a teacher—your kindness did not go unnoticed. Each of these small gestures adds up to a powerful message: our teachers are seen, supported, and truly appreciated.
Thank you for helping us celebrate the amazing staff that makes PCK such a special place to learn and grow.
