HITEON HIGHLIGHTS NEWSLETTER
November 1, 2019
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Dear Hiteon Families,
A big THANK YOU for attending the parent-teacher conferences last week! We appreciate your time and expertise in learning about your children from you, your child’s most influential teacher.
As we move through this first part of the school year we are seeing positive results in academic achievement and social growth. This can be attributed to all our students being encouraged, supported, and challenged each day to achieve their best by our staff. Another essential factor that helps in this growth is the strong, collaborative relationship we have between home and school. Also, a pinch of fun sprinkled throughout the day is helpful too.
We know that learning requires a lot of energy and concentration, so we ask families to ensure students come to school well-rested and prepared for school.
It is energizing to see our student's smiles as they enter Hiteon each day! Hiteon’s goal is to provide a well rounded educational experience for all our students and appreciate all our families’ support in that mission.
Best,
Meghan Warren, Principal
Jenny Read-Emslie, Assistant Principal

October 30th Assembly Slideshow
Hiteon Hawks enjoyed our second assembly of the year on Wednesday, October 30th. Students celebrated their school-wide accomplishment of earning a pajama/comfy clothes day. Way to go Hawks!! We also continued to discuss the overarching theme this year “KINDNESS”. The school is now working towards a sports clothing day. A great way to build community and have fun learning about each other’s favorite sport and/or sports team.
Hiteon Hawks are also looking at how to demonstrate BRAVERY! This can and will look different for each student. For some bravery is sharing their thinking in front of their classmates and for others, it could be speaking up when they see or hear something that isn’t okay with them. Below is a video that was viewed at the assembly that helps explain the idea of bravery or courage.

School and District At-A-Glance Reports
School and District report cards for the 2018-19 school year are available at https://www.ode.state.or.us/data/reportcard/reports.aspx. (Select Beaverton in the school or district search bar). We welcome the opportunity to share this information with you on the progress we are making to improve academic achievement for each student in the Beaverton School District. We are making progress.
In 1999, the Oregon Legislature enacted ORS 329.105 requiring that the Oregon Department of Education produce and issue annual report cards for all schools and districts. The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), signed by President Obama on December 10, 2015, encourages schools and educators to innovate and create systems that address local needs. As a part of this work, the Oregon Department of Education redesigned the School and District report cards to engage and inform families about their school’s approach to learning, academic and extracurricular offerings, and student performance.
The School At-A-Glance Profiles include graphics showing how a school or district compares to the statewide average in categories like chronic absenteeism, graduation rates, average class size and more. The profiles were developed with extensive input from Oregon families, including families of historically underserved students.
The data points represent a more comprehensive approach to evaluating and measuring a school’s impact on students. In five minutes or less parents can get the comprehensive look at their school or district that they’ve been requesting. All of these changes are part of Oregon’s Plan which is the state of Oregon’s plan for meeting federal requirements under the Every Student Succeeds Act.
