A Message From Mrs. Carmody
Dear Fremont Families,
I have been enjoying getting to know more of our families in our Fremont community. On Wednesday, "Soup with the Superintendent" gave us a great opportunity to chat about things happening in our schools. In the PTO meeting after, I learned about so many of the wonderful opportunities that our PTO provides for our students. Thank you, PTO. Many stayed after the PTO meeting to hear our Volunteer Training Information presentation. Here is a link to the slides. These should be viewed by anyone that volunteers in our schools. Thank you for partnering with us. We love having our parent volunteers!
Please remind any bus riders that the following rules are essential for their safety:
- Quiet voices while riding the bus-We don't want the driver to get distracted.
- Children should always make eye contact with the driver before they cross in front of the bus. This is a skill to practice for anytime they are crossing in front of any vehicles.
- Stay seated and buckled!
Stay cool this weekend!
Gratefully,
Beth Carmody

Social-Emotional Learning
Dear Fremont Community,
Fremont School District 79 prioritizes Social Emotional Learning as an integral part of our children’s education. By doing so, we prepare them for academic success and empower them to thrive as compassionate, resilient, and socially responsible individuals. Our Strategic Plan strives to create a Safe, Healthy, & Connected Culture by implementing high-quality, consistent social-emotional health, wellness, and safety practices for adults and students. We have a District SEL Committee reviewing current curricular resources, and best practices, and exploring meaningful ways we can embed SEL curriculum to support all students.
The District SEL Committee is currently exploring the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) framework, which has five core competencies:
Self-Awareness
Self-Management
Responsible Decision-Making
Relationship Skills
Social Awareness
Research suggests that explicit teaching of social-emotional learning and skill development can lead to improved student outcomes related to school attendance, high school graduation, post-secondary education, and career readiness, among other things.
The Illinois State Board of Education has information about the Social Emotional Learning Standards and links to various resources, which can be accessed using this link.
Together, let's give priority to SEL as an integral part of our students’ education. By doing so, we collectively prepare them for academic success and help them develop skills that lead to compassionate, resilient, and socially responsible students. Parents/guardians can also learn more about the five foundational tools for building emotional wellness through the Growth & Resiliency Model at the next Parent University on Tuesday, September 24th led by Audrey Grunst, LCSW of Simply Bee Counseling. Please click here for more information and to RSVP for the event.
