It's hard to believe, but Parent-Teacher Conferences are just around the corner! This is a wonderful opportunity to connect with teachers and discuss your student's progress. Below, you'll find directions for signing up in Skyward.

Does your student enjoy math or solving puzzles in their free time? Are they strong in mental math? If so, MATHCOUNTS could be a great fit! MATHCOUNTS is a nationwide competition program for middle school students, emphasizing speed, accuracy, problem-solving, and teamwork. This year, meetings will be held on Mondays after school from 3:00-4:00 in room 50. If a student is interested, they can see Miss Hanes (ehanes@cysd.k12.pa.us) in room 50, Miss Beck (kbeck@cysd.k12.pa.us) in room 39, or pick up a permission slip in the office.

There is a new opportunity coming to Central Middle School - SCIENCE OLYMPIAD. Science Olympiad offers rigorous academic competitions that consist of a series of team events, which students prepare for during the year. These events are well balanced between the various science disciplines of biology, earth science, chemistry, physics and technology. There is also a balance between events requiring knowledge of science concepts, process skills and science applications.

If a student is interested and would like to learn more about this competitive opportunity, QR codes can be found on the orange posters outside the guidance office and Mrs. Eisenhart room (#35). If you have questions, please contact Mr. Sapir in room #36. (gsapir@cysd.k12.pa.us )

If your child needs to be picked up early from school, the adult picking them up must be listed in your child's Skyward account. If they are not listed, the parent must notify the school office in advance via phone, email, or written note.

To avoid any delays, please take a moment to update your child's emergency contact information in Skyward. This will ensure a smooth and safe pickup process.

Central York School District offers optional protection plans for your child’s district-issued devices.

The protection plan fully covers your child’s device for any accidental damage that occurs. The cost is $25 per year for iPads and $60 per year for Macbooks.

In 7th grade, all students are required by the State of Pennsylvania to have proof of a dental visit. Your child’s school health record may be missing this documentation. If you have not already done so, please provide proof of a private dental exam for the 7th grade school year to fulfill this state requirement.

Private Dental Exam Instructions: Please download and return the private dental form below after your dentist has completed it. It can be faxed to the Middle School FAX 717-755-5914. Any visit in the past year can count. For example: a dental visit in the past year while your child was still in 6th grade can be used to fulfill this requirement.

Central York Middle School yearbooks are available to order now for the end of the year distribution. Yearbooks can be ordered online through the Jostens website. Paper order forms can also be sent to school with cash or check (made out to CYMS) and delivered to Mrs. Brown (room 12) or Mrs. Carlisle (room 9). Questions? Central York School District is excited to announce that we have partnered with Linewize by Family Zone, a leading education technology company, to provide District families and students with the highest quality of online safety and digital wellness education.

As members of the Central York Community, you have access to an Online Safety Hub, as well as free parent/guardian access to the Qustodio App, a parental control app that allows families insight and control of their child’s device usage.

Qustodio App

The Qustodio App allows parents access to monitor and supervise their child’s time online. By signing up, parents can monitor their child’s activity on their school-issued device, as well as up to two additional personal devices at no cost.

The app enables parents to:

• Receive reports and alerts on your child’s school-time activity
• Enable and disable internet access
• Receive guidance and tips on digital guides and threats

Access to features on your child’s school-issued device will be effective during non-school hours. Usage on two free personal devices is 24/7. Parents must use the email associated with their Skyward account.

Online Safety Hub

The Online Safety Hub includes helpful parent advice guides, app and game reviews, online safety quizzes, resources, and access to information about the Qustodio App.

Ocelot students learn about Constitution Day by circulating throughout the room on a historical scavenger hunt. By visiting various stations, they discover facts about the Constitution and the 39 men who formed and signed it on September 17, 1787.

Lynx students color and label a map of Ancient Mesopotamia. They refer to their history textbook in order to identify cities in Mesopotamia and neighboring lands, seas, and other geographical features.

All elementary and middle school students must be accompanied by and supervised by an adult at all times when attending any CYSD after-school athletic event. As a reminder, if you are planning to attend a high school football game, students are not permitted to bring backpacks or any other unnecessary items into the football stadium at the high school.

The Central York Middle School field hockey team secured a 1-0 victory against the Northeastern Bobcats last Tuesday, with Leah Sadler scoring the game-winning goal, assisted by Meah Armstead. Unfortunately, the team faced a tough loss the next day against Red Lion. This week, they’ll hit the road for an away game at Hempfield. Good luck, Panthers!

We are excited to announce the results of last week's cross-country meet, where our talented boys' and girls' teams showcased their incredible skills and determination. Both teams competed fiercely against Susquehannock, Eastern York, and Red Lion, emerging victorious!
