GA Principal Newsletter
September 22, 2024
Dear Families,
Thank you for sharing your children with us! We are enjoying working with them. One of the things we are working on with the children is learning how to lead themselves/others as learners and citizens in our school and local community. Besides teaching the students ways to be respectful, responsible, and kind , we will be teaching our students about how to make plans to work on academic and behavioral goals. One great book I read this summer, The Leader in Me, by Stephen Covey, outlines 7 habits we can develop in our children to help them learn how to successfully lead themselves and others. I have attached the graphic below that outlines the habits. Have a great few weeks!

Mr. Y Has a Heart of Gold!
Congratulations to Mr. Y and to our community! Mr. Y was presented with a Heart of Gold Certificate in recognition of his dedication and commitment to the Kids Heart Challenge and the impact he has had within our school community. Through his leadership at Glen Acres since 2013, the American Heart Association raised approximately $250,000. Thank you parents and students for all of your donations and support to make our community known as having hearts of gold!
Exciting News from Our Music Department!
Congratulations to Ms. Krasley and the Glen Acres “Singing” Eagles Chorus on being selected to march and perform in the 2024 annual West Chester Christmas Parade! Our fourth and fifth grade Singing Eagles will be marching in the parade with our very own Glen Acres parade float featuring our fantastically festive faculty and staff. This annual event features 6abc’s Adam Joseph and WMMR’s Kathy Romano returning as emcees. The parade attracts over twenty-thousand spectators into the downtown area and will be the event of a lifetime for our young singers. Mark your calendars now! The parade is Friday, December 6th and steps off at 7PM. We hope you can come out and join the crowd, support our wonderful music department, and enjoy our Glen Acres parade theme: “Holiday Lights.”

Picture Day Information
What to expect on picture day
- When an order is placed online, the parent/guardian will receive a camera pass via email. This can either be printed or texted to the student and brought to picture day. The photographer will photograph the printed camera pass along with the student.
- If a student is not able to print their camera pass, that is not a problem. We will match up the student to their order manually in the production process.
- A parent may order from the flyer up until 24 hours after picture day. After 24 hours, the online ordering access may close. This will allow our imaging team to "Pull" all orders submitted and match them with the students photographed.
- When pictures are returned to school, all students that purchased pictures will receive their prepaid package. Any student that was photographed but did not order a package, will receive a "Proof" (PX) of their picture that was taken on picture day.
All proof packages offer parents a second opportunity to order prints. All orders are subject to shipping and handling costs of up to $8.50 and will be shipped directly to home.

ASPCA Donation Box
We have once again connected with the ASPCA of West Chester & their Paws for Change program to provide opportunities for some of our students to spend some time with dog volunteers (and their humans) during the school day. The volunteers will be with us twice a month for the duration of the 24-25 school year and as a way to give back, we are asking families for optional donations for the ASPCA that we will collect throughout the school year. The flyer (with highlighted items best for school donations) outlines items we will collect at school, as well as other ways to donate. Thank you for helping dogs on their way to finding their forever homes!
The West Chester Area School District Community Bulletin Board
There are some outside companies who rent our space after school that are NOT sanctioned or sponsored by Glen Acres or the WCASD district. You can find their after school offerings on the WCASD Community Bulletin Board.

Volunteer Information
We hope you would consider volunteering. Some volunteer opportunities that come up are opportunities to help in the library, lunchroom, as a homeroom party planner, and at field trips and school and district events. If you are interested in volunteering, please be sure to have updated clearances(good for five years) on file with the school. It is important that you submit your clearances to the school when you get them. Please do not wait until you volunteer as we need to get the clearances within a year of you receiving them.
