The countdown to the school year Begins!
Back to School Edition #2
Message from Mr. Norby
Dear Armstrong Families,
As we continue to prioritize a productive and focused learning environment at Armstrong High School, I want to address the impact that personal electronic devices can have on our students' academic success.
We understand that cell phones, headphones, Bluetooth speakers, and other electronic devices are a part of everyday life. However, their presence in the classroom can be a significant distraction to both the user and their peers. In order to maintain an environment conducive to learning, it is important that these devices are not used or visible during class time, unless a teacher has specifically requested their use for educational purposes.
To ensure clarity, the following guidelines will be enforced:
Classroom Procedure: Cell phones, headphones, Bluetooth speakers, and other personal electronic devices are not to be used or visible during class time. These devices may be used during passing periods and lunchtime but must remain out of sight during instructional periods.
Consequences for Non-Compliance:
1st Incident: The teacher will have a conversation with the student and reteach expectations.
2nd Incident: The teacher will have a conversation with the student and contact the student's family.
3rd Incident: The teacher will refer the student to the Student Support Center, where the student’s phone will be kept for the remainder of the day. The family will also be contacted.
Continued Non-Compliance: Should a student be referred to the Student Support Center more than once, a meeting with the family will be scheduled to discuss the student’s use of personal devices and strategies to support their engagement in the learning environment.
Please note that Armstrong High School assumes no responsibility for lost or stolen electronic devices.
We appreciate your support in reinforcing these expectations at home. Our goal is to create an atmosphere where all students can focus on their studies and reach their full potential without unnecessary distractions. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Thank you for your continued partnership in your student’s education.
Sincerely,
Erick D. Norby
