Correia Administration

We will begin our school-wide testing or CAASPP (California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress) on Monday. These tests are incredibly important for our school and our community, impacting a variety of factors including local property values and state education budgets.

In order to allow our students the best opportunity to be successful on the CAASPP, we are focusing our efforts on having our students take the designated state test with their classroom teacher during their regular scheduled class time. The CAASPP tests dates are as follows:

CAASPP Science (8th grade only): April 14-18

CAASPP English: April 21-25

CAASPP Math: April 27 - May 2

It is critically important that your students are present and ready during our testing weeks. Please make sure your students are present and ready to give their best effort by not scheduling appointments or other engagements that would take them out of school during our testing window. Students who are absent will have to make up the tests that they miss upon their return.

All students will need to have a set of wired earbuds or headphones for their Chromebook to use during testing. Please work with your student(s) to identify a set of earbuds or headphones that they can use and operate comfortably prior to our first test day on April 14. Make sure your student continues to charge their Chromebook each night in preparation for testing the next day.

Get Ready for the 2025 Point Loma Summer Concert Jr. Stage Auditions!

Do you sing, play an instrument, love to perform, or dream of hosting a show? Then we want YOU to shine on the Jr. Stage this summer! We're looking for Junior Band Stage Performers, Patriotic Singers and Performers, and Junior Emcees (our awesome show hosts!)

Auditions will be held on Saturday, April 26th at Apt 4 Music in Liberty Station (2590 Truxtun Rd, Suite 100, San Diego, CA 92106). Electronic Devices Policy Board of Education Policy H-6980 outlines the rules for student possession and use of cellular phones and electronic devices. At Correia students may use personal devices on campus before school, during lunch and after school. During lunch there is no photographing, video recording or social media posting. These devices must be kept out of sight and turned off during the instructional program. Unauthorized use is grounds for confiscation and a parent/guardian will be required to pick up device. Please discuss with your student the importance of this policy.

Session three of Primetime Tutoring will take place from March 5-May 14. Parents do not need to enroll their students; interested students can simply attend on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 3:15-4:15 p.m. in Room B-3 and 311.

Afterschool Tutoring takes place on Mondays and Tuesdays from 3:00 to 4:00 PM in the Library. All students are welcome to attend, but they must stay for the entire hour and demonstrate respectful behavior. Students who do not adhere to these behavior guidelines will be asked to leave.

Last day of tutoring will be Tuesday, May 20.

How do students qualify to participate in end-of-year activities, including 8th Grade Promotion Link? Students must follow the following criteria in order to participate: Good behavior with no “U’s” in citizenship grades on the 4th progress report; a minimum in citizenship and academic GPA of 2.0. In addition, there should be no suspensions in the second semester of the school year; no “serious” referrals for behavior; no excessive tardies; no truancies and students must have satisfied all assigned detentions. Finally, students must have completed their CAASPP testing obligations, have no outstanding library or student fines (e.g., library, cafeteria, fundraiser, etc.), and have all library/textbooks books returned.

Thanks to FODAC, we are enabling students in the Caugh Being Awesome program to earn Correia Bucks, which they can spend at the ASB Store. This is a fantastic way to contribute to the school community.

In addition, the Correia Staff works together to create a weekly SMORE newsletter that is informative, relevant, and time-sensitive. ParentConnection accounts transfer from one school to another as your child matriculates. Parents who do not have an existing ParentConnection account can create one by following the “Create an Account” directions found on the link above. A job-aid is available as well. You will need the following information when creating an account:

In an effort to be environmentally friendly, we rarely send home paper flyers. Please verify your email address is entered correctly.

All 7th graders need verification of immunizations for:

• Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis - 1 dose

• Varicella (Chickenpox) - 2 doses

Families of 7th Graders who missed the SHEP program in 6th grade are welcome to visit the Sexual Health Education Program website, where you could view the Parent and Family Resources and Curriculum webpages for lessons, information, and other resources to guide discussions with children about sexuality and relationships. We know this does not replace the value of the Sexual Health instructional program and will continue to advocate for additional resources and support.
